Place to park truck in Des Moines.

Looking for a good long range shooting/sniping forum

About El Paso.

I just got moved here from San Antonio, and this place is depressing (no offense to those who might live here, and if you do please prove me wrong). I had no choice in the matter (Military) Are there any TDR members close? I am making a list of things to do, can anybody help me add to it?

Skeet shooting (on post)

Hunting in NM

Fishing in NM

Auto Craft Shop (on post, but have to take a safety class before I can change my own oil)

Visit Cummins Rocky Mountain and the Love's outside Horizon City on I-10(that's one awesome truck stop there)

CHarlan and his family gave me a great send off and I am glad I got to know them (which all began here with the TDR). I hope and will try to make the best of this place but the odds are stacking against me.

Help me out fellas, I'm going to go nuts.

Scott

You just moved to the most beautiful town in Texas! Not.

You can go down to Big Bend National Park and do some great off-road exploring, go up to White Sands Park in NM and have some fun on the dunes.

Go east to Van Horn, then south a few miles, and you'll be in the Davis mountains- a beautiful mountain chain

Good Luck :-laf

Don't forget Carlsbad Caverns up the road to the north a bit! You also have Ruidoso up the road a bit to the north. You can go west of Roswell on the road to the Capitan Mts. , and look for the flying saucer crash site :p (there is also a museum in Roswell).

Don't know about the difficulties of crossing the border now versus the past, so that is something you may have to find about from the people already there.

Check with the Chamber of Commerce, they always have brochures, maps, suggestions, etc.

-install a good auto alarm and deadman switch (its a bordertown thing)

-more skeet shooting!

-Long weekends in Tucson, AZ (univ of AZ)

Holly cow the price of fuel at Flying J in San Antonio is under $180 a gallon as I post, I would be sad to leave too.

Hang in there Kernel

JJ

DO NOT TAKE YOUR TRUCK ACROSS THE BORDER!!!!

You will never get it back. The Federales will probably steal it at the crossing, and if you do make it in, it will be stolen where ever you leave it, or maybe while you're still in it.

You're about to get into the best part of the year, Spring. the wind will blow about 90 mph for three months.

Have fun!

There is a soon-to-be TDR member in El Paso who is also in the military. However, he just went out of the country until June. I'll tell him to look you up.

Follow AfterBurner's advise about not crossing with your truck. He knows all to well about that. His mom (me) spent over 24 hrs under arrest by the Federales and my truck taken, all caused by one of them wanting the truck. Only because of knowing the right person and being able to come up with a substantial amount of cash am I and the truck on USA soil. Not one of my most comfortable experiences!

btw I'll probably be in El Paso sometime tomorrow. Tuesday.

Karen

I have no desire in the least to go across the border, I can see it from I-10 just fine. I do have an alarm and a little trick switch on both my rigs, I plan is to stay gone when not working so looking for things to do is all I have to try and make it by. I have a feeling this is going to be a long assignment. Hopefully I can pick up another deployment sometime (not kidding... )

Karen I sent you a PM.

As a matter of fact, the owners son is a TDR member too. Goes by the handle "Silver". Not sure if he's still an active member as he hasn't posted since 03.

Next time I fly in there, I'll give you a heads up and we can meet up. I got some pipelines out there I need to take a look at sometime this year.

Good Luck.

Curtis,

Sure thing, it would be good to meet up with you.

jnelson,

Good one, you finally got me to laugh a little.

Scott

Kernel, it could always be worse. Is there any further education advantages you could do while having nothing to do. May as well make use of your free time. It would only benefit you in the long run. Glad to hear all is well. :)

Ayul Pisso

Scott, good luck out west man don't let the tumble weeds get ya' :p . . I did get out there a few times and had a drink at this ol' place called "The Cockpit" i guess because alot of the pilots from the nearby base or airport went there. You will laugh when you see it, and just have to go in there for a beer because i mentioned it now :-laf . Well, hope everything is works for ya, come back to San Antonio when you can and give me a call
