New? or older style? I have an old fisher model:G on my truck. 7'6" so as not to torque it to much:D Got to be gentle:eek: Is your 92 250 or 350? Actualy I was reading another post and I think you said something a bout "I had(or have) a plow" that is what made me think of it!:cool: What do you have for shocks?? mine are shot:( Literely rusting/ed apart!! So I would Like tips on good things to get and bad things to get:) Better to be safe than sorry kind a thing Thanks

I plow in Grand Rapids with a '91 CTD. I replaced the shocks awhile back with an OEM equivalent of some kind. Didn't use anything fancy. Check for broken leaf springs as the heavy plows seem to take a toll. I've been replacing the spring sets every couple of years or so. I also run a pushbar set up to take some of the grief off the front of the frame rails where the plow frame bolts to the truck. I've seen the front end of plow trucks get tweaked when they hit a man hole or other hidden obstructions, trip cutting edges and all.

snow plow

Been plowing for 10 yrs with my 92 W250 4x4,5sp NV4500 with a Diamond 8' plow. I had to totally rebuild the rear-end after 135,000 and I think plowing in 4 wheel drive was partly to blame. Added a viscous coupler from Mile Marker in the front drive train this year but have only had one storm to test it so far. I had to retighten the bolts that hold the two halves of the unit together and it looks like some of the silicone (or whatever they put in it) had spun out, but it still works. I'm hoping this will save the jarring to the drivetrain you get when plowing around corners and you hit pavement while in 4wheel drive.

As far as springs and shocks- 2 1/2" Skyjackers on front work really well and their standard shocks. Chrysler supplied air shocks for the front of 90,91 for snow-plowing. They cost $120 each and I think they are still listed.

I've had both the electric hoist and mechanical pump. I liked the electric better. It was faster. You can put a bigger pulley on the engine-driven mechanical pump but then it really whistles when travelling 65-75 down the highway. (without the plow)

RDBUCK

As long as we're discussing plowing;

1. What do you guys use for ballast weight in the rear?

2. Has anyone repainted their plow bracket? Mine is looking pretty crummy.

3. Has anyone had a problem with the control connectors on their Western plow? My plow turn signals don't work (well, sometimes the right one does). Instead, the ones for the truck blink. I'm hoping maybe its just one of the little relays in the harness is bad.

4. I was thinking of adding the Mopar tow hooks. My dealer doesn't know if the plow bracket will allow them to be put on. I have no idea how they mount.
