I told a friend of mine that I plug my truck in all night and he said that it wasn't a good idea to plug your truck in for that long. Is this true? What would it hurt? I don't have to pay electricity,"Base Housing" so I figure what the heck...

I plug mine in when I get home from work at 6 and unplug it when I go to work at 7:30 the next morning. I have never had any problem nor has any of my friends that use the same technique.

I wouldn't worry about it. Its not really necessary to leave it plugged in all night though. You can go to any Radio Shack or similar store and get a timer. When you plug it in it won't push any power to the heater until the time you specify. I did this for a while when it got colder here and worked great. I usually set it to turn on about 1 hour before I had to go anywhere.
