Plugged tire

A small father-son (only) shop here will patch a car tire for $5. 00. They don't like plugs. Just up the road, haircuts are $5. 00. Needless to say, it's not hard to tip someone when they don't charge enough for their good work. Mark

Well, it is nice to know that I am not the only one using plugs. In fact, I prefer a properly install plug over a patch. It will seal from the outside and keep moisture out of your steel belts where as a patch will only be on the inside. Also, after you break a tire down so many times you will start having leaks around your rim and the bead.

I had to take a load of cattle to Hereford, Tx today and had to plug a tire before I could load and go. I pull a 32 foot three axle trailer that was weighing more than any ones travel trailer. It was at least 100 degrees all day long. From the time I loaded to where I unloaded it wad 167 miles on my trip meter. I set my speed on 65 mph. The only thing happen is, I am tired. By the way, I have no idea how many plugs are in the pickup and trailer tires.

As I have said before, if you dont like plugs by all means dont use them.

Please dont tell me that I cant use a plug, I will decide that for myself. That is my story and I am sticking to it. Oh, by the way I have already sprayed for the Saber Tooth Rabbits so they wont be a problem.

If anyone lives near a Les Scwab they will do Patches for free, usually takes an hour but never paid for on on my work truck and never bought tires from them.

I don't know about the legality of this issue, but I've used this kit for a number of years and had great success with it. I wouldn't use the standard auto store type for a permanant patch but these mushroom-shaped plugs hold well and I've never had one leak. Never use one in a sidewall though, only in the main tread area. The ideal fix is of course to have the tire plugged and then patched on the inside, but sometimes a kit like this can get you out of trouble for the short term.

Tire Plugger worked good. The stem was was a little "beat up" from the steel belts. I suggest using silicone spray on the nozzle that the plug passes through. Nozzle was tough to pull off the plug. Used it on an easy sheetmetal screw that was off the lug.
