I am laying some tile for a good friend of mine while he is in mexico, and need some advice. At the last minute, he asked if I could put in an electric heated flooring mat in the master bath. No big deal, done them before and to be nice, was going to do it for cost... BUT I thought of another idea that would save him some money. He has base board heat in his house. uses a boiler and the base board radiators. Could he not just tap into this and run the plastic wersbo(sp?) through the flooring? I would normally just ask my plumber, but he is the plumber! :-laf and he is in Mexico! So, I dont mind waiting to do this floor until he gets back, and I am sure he would love to save some dollars doing it himself anyway. i just need to know if that is a workable idea or not, if its not, I am just going to do the electrical mat.

Thanks!

In the summertime with the A/C running, the owner might want to run the tile heaters to knock the chill off the floor. Could he do that with the boiler-based water heating system, or could he only heat the tile when the whole house heating system is running? Maybe that's why he wanted an electric system.

If you install a zone valve in the circuit in parallel and a t-stat but without seeing the plumbing cant say for sure

My thought is, does he want to run the boiler system in the summertime? That's sure using a lot of fuel ($$$$$) just to run the tile heaters.

What you are talking about will work, with a t-stat and seperate zone, but Rusty has a point, unless he is firing the boiler for his domestic hot water instead of using a water seperately in which case it wont be a waste.

thanks for the info guys. would have been alot more involved to do the water heated flooring, so I just did the electric mat instead.

Again, thanks for the info.
