Hat's off to Tom @ Carolina Clutch...

Where to get a pump for manual trans oil?

In the past there has been some discussion on how to plumb in a second trans cooler. Some have said in series, some have said in parallel(so to speak, electrically).

What is the current consensus on what works best?

Thanks.

If your objective is to remove heat load from the engine cooling system, plumb the new cooler ahead of the radiator tank cooler (i. e. , in the hot line from the transmission to the radiator. ) If your objective is maximum cooling of the transmission fluid, plumb the new cooler in the return line from the factory oil-to-air cooler back to the transmission.

I have this really nice cooler left over from the last truck. Unfortunately, I sold the fan from it :)( ).

I have been thinking I could replace the factory cooler with it. Then I got the idea that hooking it up in addition to the other one may be the better idea.

I am keenly interested in this discussion, as I'm experiencing overheating problems (both transmission and engine) with long uphill loaded hauls (see . sig) under relatively cool ambient temps (mid 70's). The little FTF discussion I've had so far is that series is better, unless you want/have control over the flow into each of the parallel units. I'll still go this route, regardless of the source of my problem. I really like **ICEMAN**'s recommendations (both the cooler and using it as the primary), but I've only just started looking into options. I must say that I'm not too thrilled about putting a secondary transmission cooler in front of my A/C condenser and/or radiator.

RustyJC makes a good point, too: what's your purpose? My goal is maximum transmission cooling. This should probably come up as a separate thread (and might already be asked and answered elsewhere - I just haven't found it yet), but what about finned and/or deep transmission pans? Good, bad, or indifferent?

My friend Mike, who turned me onto this group (and who sold me the truck), also strongly recommends that you not use anything less than 1/2" tubing.

Consensus?! :-{} Sorry, I couldn't resist. . . I look forward to more commentary, and I thank you for prompting me to make my first post. - g^2, immediate TDR convert

Finned transmission pans can't hurt - anything that gets rid of BTUs is a good thing.

Right - the 47RE uses 1/2" lines. On my 1996 Dodge V-10/47RE, I found a B&M Supercooler that has 1/2" NPT inlet and outlet ports and used Aeroquip adapters and lines to plumb it into the hot line between the transmission and radiator tank cooler - my objective was to reduce engine cooling system heat load when towing our 13,500 lb 5th wheel in stop-and-go conditions during Houston summers! With the transmission cooler and a 205 degF fan clutch, it worked great! :D

Rusty

Is this a Dodge item, or aftermarket.

What is the temp rating of the stock fan clutch?

I know Dodge at one time had some sort of upgraded fan clutch.

Thanks.

Glad you decided to jump into this group.

It has been a real blessing for most of us.

Now, what or where is this FTF discussion you speak of?

Both with Midnite, whom I purchased the truck from, and my mechanic. FTF = face-to-face, in case anyone doesn't know that one. . . - g^2

 Oh, I thought it might have something to do with that nasty "F" word,... ..... F*rd :D

The 205 degF fan clutch I used is an aftermarket item. The thermal fan clutch on the V-10 was rated at 228 degF, but mine didn't kick in until 235-240 degF. Redline temp on the V-10 was 260 degF.
