plz help 2001 6spd transmission problem

my father in law called me he has a 2001 drw 6 speed he is saying that it willnot go int 6th gear all others are fine but grinds trying 6th even if you turn motor off it still will not go in. has anybody else had this problem the dealer wants $1200. 00 to pull out and just look at it lol. any help would be nice thank you

Try putting the transmission into 6th as far as it will go with the engine off and clutch depressed, hold the gearshift in that position, start the engine and slowly release the clutch. If it grinds then release the gearshift immediately. Sounds like a synchronizer ring is stuck and that might free it. bg

Welcome to the TDR. Hopefull B. G. Smith's answer will work for you, if not try posting this question in the 3rd generation engine/trans forum. You will probably get more help.
