gsbrockman - I note on your thread regarding the fluid change that you were doing the first change at roughly 37,000 miles. I see the following from the maintenance section of the user guide my truck came with:

"Inspect the front (4x4) and rear axle fluid, change if using your vehicle for police, taxi, fleet, off-road or frequent trailer towing." The interval listed is every 12 months or 15,000 miles.
I know one can't always judge the quality of the fluid by the color----but I actually thought it would have been wasteful to have changed it much sooner than 30k----IMO.

I've heard of only a minute amount of failures / problems with the AAM's. They're great axles.

My travel trailer weighs a bit over 8000 lbs. The service manager at my dealership recommended 30k fluid change on the differentials for my use.

Thanks guys. I checked the service manual (on CD) and it was no more clearly written than the user guide. My travel trailer is just over 9,000 lbs; with 23K on the truck now I think I'll wait until closer to 30K for a fluid change.

I believe Chevy (with the same rear axle) recommends a 50k mile change interval. That's what I'm going with since I don't tow anything at the moment. Here's my shameless plug for the AAM finned rear cover Diff cover swap. You can also see some guys with a rear sway bar and how they had to "massage" the cover to get it to fit correctly.

Bull****, is what that is, I waisted lots of money changing out my diff oils every 15K on my 04.5 using Dodge's oil. Never again, I'll be changing out my diff's oil every 50K from now on for the AA differentials.
