When my crank position sensor decided to go, it threw the code, but when I ignored it, a few days later I lost my tachometer between 0 rpms and 1500 rpms. then it would pop up and work after that. everytime it dropped below 1500 it would crash all the way to 0. So I just changed it and the prob went away. That was on my 99 dodge and the sensor was only $20.
Your welcome. BTW. On the 99 it was located behind the starter. once you got the starter out, it was easy to change. I believe it is in the same place on the 3rd gens too.
I believe you're thinkin about the camshaft position sensor... the crank sensor is up front, at about 5'oclock on the crank dampner, when looking from the front of the truck. Held in by one bolt i believe...
737: you may want to check the gap on the sensor. From what I recall, it should be around 50 thousands... a match pack flap is the correct thickness. Dont use a metal feeler gauge. .

Depends on the year of the truck. On the 99 the crank position sensor in behind the starter. The Camshaft sensor in on the back side of the gear housing, behind the VP44 injector pump. The 12 valves have it on the dampner.
