I lived in Poky for two years. It was cool for me because I have a bunch of friends that live there.
Its about 50K in population. High dessert climate. Good hunting and fishing if you like that. Local Goose hunting is very good. Tons of off-roading places. I went everywhere on my 4 wheeler around there.
Decent snows in winter. Ok skiing area about 15 minutes from town. Chair lifts.
Idaho State University is close and kept a fresh supply of girlies coming to town each year. The nightlife is kinda lame though.
Lotsa lotsa mormons. Not bad though. I met a bunch of great folks there.
I actually still go back about 6 months out of the year if I can swing a contract with the gov at the INEEL.
I lived on the Reservation about 12 miles out of town. What an experience that was.
Bad things are: The economy is trashed basically. Windy as ever.
Small boring town most of the time for the younger crowd. I kinda like it though. Most people cant drive at all that live there. I have had guys/gals pull right out in front of me alot.
The JR Simplot plant is one stinky nasty smelling place that sometimes stinks the whole town up. Air quality is not perfect sometimes, but I hear it is better since the phos plant shut down.
Go check it out and see whatcha think. All in all I would love to live there year round, if I could afford too
