There was an accident last night...

Custom AR-15's

I've been looking at the new pocket PC's lately. I have a couple of questions that the sales help will of course say "sure it can do that". Can you browse the net like with a laptop or is it limited? Can you bookmark URLs like with IE? How about e-mail. Is it limited or can you send and receive like with outlook express? My ISP doesn't have an interface so I use IE and Outlook Express. I see the new i-PAQ advertises Windows Media Player 9. Does it work smooth and clear like with Windows XP or is it jittery and fuzzy.

I don't know anyone who has one and my Nextel i550 plus phone with web and e-mail capability is a poor example of what I'm hoping a pocket PC is capable of.

Just looking for a new toy...

I have had a couple of Pocket PC's, and they are great! I just got a new Dell Axim X5

Can you bookmark URLs like with IE? YES

Can you send and receive like with outlook express? YES, but it doesnt send the mail until you sync with the desktop. You have Pocket Outlook, but it still uses the desktop for the network connectivity.

Windows Media 9 plays great, and MP3's sound great. I downloaded a DVD to Pocket PC program, so the Pocket PC plays full length DVD movies using Media Player. They sound and look good too.

Thanks for the reply... I looked at some today at Best Buy. They don't have them connected to the net but you can play with them at the counter. I'd like to see how they display websites compared to the laptop. Thanks again...

Everything is much smaller (duh) There are websites setup just for the small screen of the Pocket PC that have news sports... etc.

When viewing full size websites, you have to scroll from side to side and top to bottom to get the whole page. The laptop will do a much better job looking at web pages since you can only pack so much on the small sceen.

Yeah that's what I was wondering if the Pocket PC reduced the content and image size or scrolled full size like you said. Games like solitaire are reduced so you view the whole game on the little screen. It would still be great for work related data even if web browsing is awkward.

Just fired up my new HP iPAQ Pocket PC h4100. The TDR site looks great on it. I looked up my reader's rigs pics. They're downsized to fit the screen. I think it's going to be a pretty neat little gadget. It doesn't have a camera built in but an optional camera attachment is available. Pictures and video play good and text is downsized to about small print size on the laptop. We looked at all of them and the HP with Windows Mobile seems to be the easiest to navigate...
