I have a 1989 first gen truck that is mildly BOMBed (see sig. ). Can the Lucas "Prince of Darkness" injectors be used with an already tweaked pump?

Yes, the injectors will work with a tweaked up pump. In fact you need to make some adjustments depending on what kink of HP, smoke etc. you want or don't want.

The only thing you need to confirm is the injector body size. The earlier 1st Gens had 9mm, and the later one's 7mm.

I'm not sure how that would work... maybe the boby/holder is swapped and the all goes well, at least that's what I've been led to believe.

I think your year of truck had the 9mm injector bodies (my phrase)

The reason they changed to the 7mm later was because there was a possiblility of head cracking.

If you order the injectors for your year truck you should have the proper assembly all ready to go. I'd like to make a suggestion too. . when you get the injectors, get a set of standard washers. . I think they're 60 or 65 thousandths, and get a set of the smaller ones too. ... I think they're 20 thous. If you have idle smoke that you don't like try putting in the thinner washers. It seems that they may help a bit with the idle smoke/haze.

Maybe check with someone like Piers or Al at PDR, or the place your getting the nozzles from, they should know for sure.

Wxman,

Unless you replaced the head, you have the bigger holes. You only need to get the copper sleaves to use the 7mm injectors with the 9mm head.

To use 7 mm injectors in 9 mm holes

To use 7 mm injectors in 9 mm injector holes (pre-91 cylinder heads) you need adaptor sleeve #3919358. The washer (seal) is attached.

WXMAN,

Hey, this is Big Don, I have an 89 (Ol Blue), it's been a while since I've posted, but I have the ol blue specials in my truck. They should be the same as the POD's. I love'em. They make the truck run like crazy. You will need the adapters cause the early trucks have the 9mm holes and the injectors you want have 7 mm tips. Be sure to get a pyro and an intercooler is advised as the early 9mm heads are prone to cracking. Mine went south at 110,000. I have an intercooler and 14 cm housing and just recently I installed a Jardine 4" exhaust less muffler. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks to everyone for the assistance. How difficult of a job is changing out injectors? Any special tools required?

Don... I have an EGT gauge, boost gauge, trans temp gauge, aftermarket tach, and I've had an aftermarket intercooler on the truck since shortly after I bought it (nearly 13 years ago), so I have everything you suggested already. :) Where's Church Hill, TN?

Changing injectors is pretty easy.

I made an injector puller from a piece of "all thread", a metric nut, a standard nut and a 1/2" socket (@$2. 00).
