Hi. I went to put in My Pod's today and noticed a difference in length from my stockers. from the bottom copper washer to the top of the nut that bolts it on, the POD's are shorter, is that ok or do i have to somehow lengthin them?

Thx

I never noticed. The nut on the OEM unit will pull off. The POD will not. You'd have to measure with the nut in the same position

Public Announcement:

Anyone out there that has had lots of time and have measured the length of these? ;)

Essler,

May I ask why you measured them? Just to be sure they fit???

What Scott said.

What really matters is the length from the washerface to the nozzle tip. With the POD's it is best to use the thinnest copper washers.

I put them in anyways. It went OK till I noticed that the 1# inj. was leaking from the head to the fitting. I pulled it back out and saw that some crud must have dropped into the hole while i reassembled it and it kinda indented the washer. The washer was fubared so I put in the next thickest washer(I used the thinest on the rest). Is this OK, or was I stupid for doing so? BTW, i got it all running and no leaks.

p. s. I checked on the length just because I have fubared enough stuff in my life so I learned to check everything first ;)

Its a timing issue. The thicker washer pulls the tip up and away from the piston bowl. The fuel is sprayed directly into the bowl where it swirls back up and into the air stream. You will notice increased idle smoke with the thicker washers as well.

I kinda figured I should change it. So I guess my next Q is where I can find a thin washer as I only need one. Also on a side note, when I pulled out my stockers I saw that they were coated in oil, between the copper washer and the bung fitting on top. Normal? I'm guessing not. They didn't make near as much smoke as I thought they would(good) or as much power(bad). On average how much of an increase in boost did you guys see with the POD's? Thx for all the answers and help btw.

Any Bosch (or fuel injection period) shop should have the thin washers. I can see if the local shop in jackson has any.

You do need to keep the washers the same thickness.

Now you need to tweak that tweaked pump a little more. :-laf After Scott was done with me I was all smiles. Oo. I'd say what I did but it might sound like I know what I'm doing so ask the regulars here and you'll get both.

You could carefully sand down a thicker one as long as you are carefull and can keep it even.

Ya, I thought about that. But I think I'd rather do it right the first time. I called around today and not one shop in this damn city carries the thin washers. They all had the stockers tho. Oh and I found out they're called "tip gaskets". So now I guess I'll have to pull the other five now and swap #@$%! I hope it's OK this way till I have time to do it. My clutch slipped for the first time today also(probably because of the POD's ;) ). I just had the bloody transmission out to rebuild it and thought about doing the clutch but figured "nah it'll hold till spring". I'm having a great day :{

Look at this as a good thing. More power is always good. But keep in mind there will be more weak links.

It's not any different than building a Super Stock pulling tractor. Nearly all the weak links have been identified on these trucks with manual and autos. You will need the $$$ and time to address each one as the HP level increases to the point you would much rather go do something else as opposed to tear into that _________ (you fill in the blank) one more time ;)

Have fun but try to keep a roof over your head and remember to spend time with the family while your at it. :)
