It's the time of year I have too much time on my hands! It occurred to me this morning I could return oil from my bypass filter housing to the Non-oil fed Pod Style Vacuum Pump. I would have to drill and tap the housing across from one or the other Pod piston bores but I think it is doable and not too crazy of an idea. This is return oil from the filter that has a pretty good restrictor on it, so it really would be a trickle. Can I get some comments on this one?

Why bother? Is there an issue with shortevity?

Space under there is limited (want to remote mount the full flow filter) and the driver side is an easy take-off for pressure into by-pass. Looking for a clean install on the return and think the cheesy poke-a-hole-in-the-oil-pan is not gonna happen on my rig. Basically just a thought with too much time on my hands...

I have never looked into a bypass system- dont drive enough miles a year to make it pay, and the engines last too long to worry about "engine wear". But, I have noticed that there are several places along the edge of the block just above the pan that look like places to install a dipstick depending on your application. Could you route the bypass return into one of those areas? It looks like a tiny freeze plug that would pop out.

Yep, it is for the "oil level gauge" (dip stick), there's three places along there for it. Behind the Engine mount there's a spot for a side oil fill, different application. Do our blocks have the provision for the crank position sensor like the later year models? I didn't pay much attention way back when I had the starter off?

I thought our crank position sensor was on the h-balancer, but that doesnt mean the other privision isnt there.
