Allright guys. I have my POD's and will be installing them next Friday. I just want to know from those of you who have experience with them. Is the :--) :D  factor really as big as everyone says. I know they will roll the coal. Mine smokes pretty good already. Should I be prepared for a whole lot more?

Hi Bill,

All I can tell you is this... if you smoke now, you're gonna smoke properly after those hose heads go in... ... ... . :D:D

All you'll need to fix it though is more air. . ;)

Seriously, you will see more smoke, particularly when at low/no boost. The Lucas are pretty rich injectors, in fact they flow more fuel than a stock condition 370 2nd gen performance injector.

I don't know what your EGT's and boost numbers are now, but they will both rise.

If you haven't already made some notes on your numbers, eg:boost/rpm/egt's/gear etc you should do it before the install.

That way you'll have something to draw comparisons with rather than the 'ole seat 'O the pants meter...

Ya need to get one of Piers modified HX-35 turbos to help with the low end smoke. Put a 12,14, or 16 housing on (which one depends on what you do with the truck). Boost comes up real fast with this turbo. To go along with that you need to modify the inlet side for more air. Put an AFE or BHAF setup on to take care of that side. Then you will need a larger exhaust system to get rid of the waste easier. (air in/air out).

Once you start down this road there will be no turning back!:D I was just going to get to 22 pounds boost or therebouts so I could tow my trailer a little better, now look at my signature. It's all Pastor Bobs fault you know. :D :D

Heck, now I have a 3 piece manifold sitting in the garage waiting to go on. Already had to put a bigger boost gauge on.

I gave my son a set of the POD's for christmas, his pump is still pretty much stock. He didn't get much smoke but the performance increased quite a bit. We'll be turning up the pump once he gets the rearend setup correctly, then the smoke show will start!

PODs = good

Bill - POD's don't suck. At 220k miles on the clock I went from stock everything to what you see in profile below. - Installed the hardware, NASCAR Mark cranked on the pump, and it was night and day difference. Mine has a nice hazy fog that is barely visible at normal throttle, and with my intake it sounds... awesome. Turbo whine = good. At night the exhaust glows when lit up from headlights behind me :p , but also at night, or day for that matter, when I wanna boff someone (smoke 'em out) I just bury the hammer and a nice cloud of #2 entertains whoever is behind me. Not killer black death dark, but a good diesel notice to those wondering what is walking away from them. Nice feature for tailgaters too, but only, only when I'm really on it. Otherwise it is very nice indeed. Stock, well, you couldn't tell it was a diesel. Fuel is good - more fuel is better.

Stan is right - you bolt in one of PDR's -35's with a 16 or smaller and you'll be a'smilin' all day:D

Well guys, I can't wait to get them in. As for the air goes, I am currently running a BHAF with no box whatsoever. I am getting plenty of air in. A new charger will be in the works, in the near future. I have a 3. 5" exhaust now, so air flow out is pretty good. As for temperatures I have hit 1300 one time. That was on a long grade towing about 17,000lbs and with my current fuel settings, which are pretty extensive. I can hit 26lbs of boost now. So I am hoping for 30 with these new injectors. Here is a pic a buddy took of my truck smoking a little. We could never get a good shot that because the wind was blowing so friggin hard.

Thanks, Bill

Here is what I saw with adding PODs

Boost then 22psi, after 29-30psi, after PDR Turbo 40+psi

Max egt then 1300, after 1500+

smoked bad before, but now can block out intersections, couldn't see the red and blue lights untill he made it through the cloud

asa intake made a lot of noise but seemed to lower air in volume?

Now running Factory size K&N with out airbox, liken it. Over all I wouldn't go back.

If you've only reach 1300*F one time and that was hauling 17000 pounds then you need to do some tweaking.

First the injectors themselves will raise that temp noticably.

The smoke in the picture is pretty heavy at, what looks like, low boost.

The truck will benefit from some "re-allocation" of fuel.

Put in the injectors and drive it first.

Make note of you temps and other info then we can guide you from there... .

Well I guess when I say extensive, it is to me. I took my truck from stock fuel setting to turning the screw in a few rounds. It made a new truck to me, out of it. My lock collar is still on, so I guess I have a lot of fuel left. I do tow quite a bit with the truck and it does all I could ask out of it now. I can tow anything anywhere I want and not have to worry about it getting there. I just wanted the POD's for that little extra ummph sometimes. And of course, to play with people at interserctions.

As for my pic, yes it was relativley low boost. About 4-5 pounds is all I could make without the tires screaming.

Bill

Hey Bill, it will help also if you advance your timing a bit with the POD's. I moved mine about 3\16" towards the block and the engine seemed to stop laboring to idle. You can really smoke if your too quick with the throttle, but just ease into it unless you really need it. Smokin diesels really gives us a black eye in the public eye. Just my 2 cents. Tim

I put the POD injectors in,and never looked back! With all that smoke there's nothing to see anyway !:D It's a good idea to be looking ahead anyway when you're at 41# of boost. :--) :D

after PDR Turbo 40+psi

Man if I get the Hx35, it'll will definitely be a headgasket killer. I can hit #35 easily now(on cold mornings). That's with stock injectors:D about time to get a bigger boost gauge.

If I ever get injectors, should I intercool first? Or could I manage without an intercooler? Thanks
