Refining Diesel

Anyone in the Pueblo, CO area?

I read somewhere that they will carry a 15% preimum over the cost of the big bore gas model. I got the Polaris way cheaper cause no one wants them. :-laf It is a neat looking machine though.

Take a look at this Quad! If they ever put a turbo on it I will be replacing my Brute Force 750. Oo.

I would be interested in it if it had good performance, as we know the torque and economy would be relatively better. However, there is more to me in respect to choosing a quad than the type of fuel it runs. The current artic cat platform isn't the greatest. My friend has 5 or 6 big bore quads. He has had prairie 650's, has a prairie 700 and a brute 750, and the artic cat 650, which uses the kaw v-twin. He has had so many problems with the artic cat part of the quad, that he's selling it. It really doesn't take abuse very well.

The brute force is a nice quad if you like straight line speed or exclusively ride mudholes, but their high center of gravity combined with rear IRS makes them a very tippy ride, and not very sporty. Rankram - I know it's not cheap - but check out the options that works or elka have for the BF. They do lower the quad a tiny bit, but offer huge gains in travel, comfort, and handling, and actually make it fun to ride at speeds or on off camber trails.

Outside of the novelty of the fact that the quad runs diesel(which I do think has a high cool factor), I think very few people really NEED the potential longer range, and most folks also do not have a convenient way to dispense diesel fuel from their truck into a quad - so you're back to 5 gal cans and at that point who cares what's in it? More gas stations carry gasoline than diesel.

I took care of the tippy handling for the most part when I put 27" Mudlites on with ITP Type 5 wheels. I know what you mean about the straight line riding. My previous quad was a 650 Honda Rincon. That quad was great out here in the high desert trail riding that we do.

The aftermarket shocks would be great!

I plan to do some research and I will buy some someday... ... ... ...

BTW I put a Moose module on the Brute and it really helped with the power. Oo.

The Roush Diesel Quad ATV is the next big thing. I have owned several Polaris Diesel ATV's. They are fantastic ATV's. However, everytime I buy one and fix it up, someone offers me an outrageous sum to sell it to them. The saga contines... .

The next big thing eh - we'll see. I certainly would'nt be opposed to ANYTHING diesel :) We'll see if they can keep the weight and performance in line with the other gas options out there.

Rankram - no offense but you really could have gained more by putting radial tires on that quad. IRS quads BEG for radials, due to the wider footprint and stability, it tends to counteract the tippyness. Mudlites are nice tires though, and the BF certainly won't have any trouble burning the 27's right off the rim :) I have a full dyna cdi on my prairie - that actually works on bf's too. Not sure what your moose module is, but I'm assuming it's similar to the DG3 or highlifter modules. The modules certainly improve bottom end snap!

Those elka suspension setups are wicked expensive - like 2-3 grand - however they make a night and day difference. ATV TV had a great episode a few weeks ago where they installed a similar (I believe from works shocks) setup on both a bf 750 and a grizzly, and had both sitting next to stockers. The modified quads definitely sat lower and had tons more travel. They build each suspension to your exact weight and riding style as far as valving goes. WHen they ran the stock vs modded quads over the same areas, it was amazing. You could see the stocker suspension barely moving at all, the quad looked stiff and bouncy. The modded one just ate up those rocks and ruts, kept the machine more level, and you coudl see the rider was bouncing far less, and the machine was far less skittish at speeds over uneven terrain. Sweet setup - kinda like going from stock to KORE RACE ;) At this point both of my quads have stock setups and I'm not sure I ride enough to justify the mod - but MAN are they sweet!!

LightmanE300 I agree about the radial tires being better, I got the Mudlites and wheels for a great price.

I didn't know the Elka suspensions were so expensive! I will live with the rough ride and go with a KORE for the truck instead. :-laf

The Moose module is just like the DG3 or highlifter modules, other than they are plug and play.

I read about that Arctic Cat/Roush Diesel ATV a while back and have been hoping it would come into production! I love my Polaris, but am wanting a new or second Diesel powered ATV. If the Arctic Cat is as well made as the Polaris (4-wheel independent suspension, selectable true 4x4, grease fittings), it definately will be a good choice for me. It is the only other USA ATV company other than Polaris that I know of. Can't wait to see their diesel offering!

RescueRam, glad you like yours! Sure makes it convenient when all your other equipment is diesel powered anyway. Kinda like the military: one fuel for everything! :D

That is a beautiful ride up there.

Does anyone know how to attach a video clip with sound? I have one of the Diesel. it is in . 3g2 format.

I hate being computer dumb :{ :(

Yeah, I guess I could do that. I know a while back member turbodiezel (sp) had a cool vid of a gtg he was at. I just assumed that he posted it on here. Maybe not...

Highest elevation.

This is the highest elevation I have had the Diesel to so far. I was able to run between 10 and 20 mph up hill and 20 to 30 on flats. I shut the engine off for 30 minutes and then restarted with no problem.

It was cold today (+/- 40F) I need to get some cardboard or something for the radiator. She got real cold on the down hill run.
