does anybody have any know how about polishing? Im getting a cleaned pump and was wondering if anybody had any ideas on how to get the raw al. down smooth without scaring it. Figured if im going to put that much money into a pump it might as well look like it.

A polished P7100 would be a work of art... but, I'd hate to see you get some grit into the workings and ruin it.

The big debate is:

  • Polish it before all the machine work - polish the empty castings, hot tank them about a dozen times to get the crud out, machine it, assemble it.
  • Clean it up, machine it, assemble it, then try to work around all the stuff that's bolted on.

yes thats exactly what i was going to do, im working closely with a injection shop and he can get me a cleaned and empty housing. the problem is i need to get the raw al. down smooth and ready for endless hours of buffing and polishing then he is going to put all the parts back in the pump with some big mods to everything  it should be pretty intresting to see when its all done, never seen it done before.

I can honestly say that I've never seen a polished P7100, either. That's a lot of work, but the results are going to be really nice.

Who's doing the pump work?

Matt

A shop here in potterville, MI its called diesel equipment, they sure know what there talking about and second to none in service. I think im going to sell my old pump when im done and was wondering what a good asking price was, its only the 911 pump but its got some good parts in it. laser cut dv,3k,and soon to be a 0 plate

$200 - $300 is the going price for a running used pump...

Keep us updated on the project - both the polishing and how it runs after the mods.

Did the shop give you any target fuel numbers (mm/stroke, etc. )? I'm just trying to figure out what they're going to do to it and what your eventual goals are...

Matt

Summit racing did have a kit for polishing aluminum intakes a year or two ago. You might check with them. I remember it because it was right before edelbrock and holley started marketing polished aluminum intakes.

the guy at the shop said he could get it to flow somewhere in the area of 500 cc of fuel, im going for a setup to creat about 800+ w/nitrous and water meth similar to jim fulmers i think he said sompthing about 14mm barrels maybe, i got confused as soon as he started talking internals so i just leave that to him. how much fuel does a good pump like a stupid pump push? any ideas. i looked but didnt see that polishing kit, im basicly looking for sompthing to smooth it out i have some stuff do do the polishing i was thinking like a borillo pad or sompthing similar. when i go to put it on do you think i should upgrade the feed lines im going to use stainless braided and was thinking about -8an (1/2") should be big enough?? any thoughts about all of this are much needed being i dont want to mess this up.

The stupid pump has 13mm's in it and it flows 800 cc's till around 3500 engine rpm were it's down to 715 and flat lines till 5000 engine RPM were the pump stand ran out of steam, I have it setup rather tame right now as I still run 181 dV's... ... . who knows what it will do with L/C's in it and my injectors..... way more than I can burn, My fuel system is the stock one with the hasiley's aux system and a stiff over flow to hold 37 psi at max power on the road..... that's plenty.

Jim

thank you jim its about time you chirped in and give me some of your valuable insite, your just the man i was looking for as you have damn near put togather my entire system. i will be sure and relay my info from here to the injection shop but before i do will the 35/3b combo handle that much fuel??? and please keep the info coming Oo.
