Poll: How many tow and hall vs run empy

How many of you tow and hall a lot as compared to people like myself who run empty most of the time.



I wanted a truck so I could off road and hall stuff if I needed or wanted to. I got tired of hitching up the trailer to the car type deal. Some people think I'm crazy to have a big Diesel truck just as a daily driver. But the way I see it is if I had any other truck, like a gasser, I would get nasty fuel mileage and have much less power. So I figured why not go all the way and get the truck of my dreams. Then of course there is just nothing like the sound of a big Cummins Turbo Diesel with an opened up exhaust. I smile bigger every day! Anyone else feel this way?

I tow and haul as much as I can. I haul a 3000lb camper, wood chips beauty bark, gravel, etc. I tow a 3 horse slant load or an 18ft flatbed with cars, tractor, hay, or supplies on it.



I love to tow heavy loads. I hate the Seattle traffic tho.

I have yet to find something to tow. , Or afford anything to tow. I do haul Motorcycles, but that is hardly a load.

I tow a 26 ft travel trl. and have towed many boats and other things for friends. It just seems like the Cummins likes to get hooked up and tow. The sound and the power of it under load is music to my ears. The truck runs really good when empty but just seems like it is happiest when hooked up to a good load. Its like it is what it wants to do. Just my 2 pennys wotth.

I usually go empty since this is my daily driver, but this week is different. For some strange reason, both my mom and I decided that this week is a good one to move. She is closing on a new house on Tuesday and we have to get all of her stuff gone by the end of the day. The rest of the week will be spent moving all of my stuff to our new house. Mom won't hire movers since she has two big boys who drive trucks. The funnest part will be when we move that gun safe this afternoon.

I tow a 9400lb gvwr 32 Jayco TT.

What a difference when I went to the one ton diesel over the 1/2 gasser.

Yikes! Those are HEAVY! It took four guys to move mine in. I didn't have to help cause I wasn't supposed to know it was a present from Santa... LOL.

My truck rides and runs A LOT better with my camper in the bed. The suspension feels better and the engine pulls nicer. I guess it was made to work a little!!

Well, we only had two of us and managed fine (we did have a hydraulic lift on the Ryder truck though). Where we decided to put it in the new house has a six-inch step to get there. Any sugestions on how to lift a safe like that?

How about a few boards (strong, like 2x6s), and a pry bar... use the pry bar to lift the edge, drop it on the boards... then use the bar to "scoot" it up the boards. Once up the step, resume whatever you have been doing... a cart on wheels would be nice, but watch out for damage to your floor!

I have never towed anything, and probably never will. I just enjoy the truck for all the reasons others noted above. However, I do have the biggest and heaviest hitch I could buy. Why, you might ask? To impale the radiators of the old f*** tourists that keep running into the back of my truck in parking lots. I can hardly wait for the day I have to remove the pin and leave the hitch in someone's radiator. It will be well worth the price of a new hitch!

Mine is a daily driver but I pull a 26 ft Wellcraft to Monroe reserviour about every other week. The CTD replaces a 97 f-150 4x4 that was not up to the task.

Use mine for transportation to work then tow on the evenings and weekends. Have a 20' bobtail trailer for my Yanmar loader-hoe and all the other implements. When I started bombing I didn't know how the thing would tow and man was I shocked. Not only did it run better but the transmission STOPPED shuddering and it shifts better now. I'm guessing I weigh about 10,000 loaded but the Cummins don't mind a bit. Just an added plus is that with the mods I have I still get almost 21 mpg on the highway empty. I did verify this cause I just got back from OC MD Sunday night and I think they flattened all the mountains since the last trip I took cause I don't remember going up any.

I haul dirtbikes. Wish I could afford one of those Wells Cargo trailers though.
