Hello all,

I was curios to know how many of you have the P1740 torque converter lock-up code since upgrading converters? From what I understand, this is very common as the ECM no longer sees a significant drop in RPMs after lock-up with tight converters that may only drop 200 RPM.

I have also come to understand that this code is something that should be adressed via programming the ECM to delete/ignore this condition. I realize there is nothing wrong mechanically, but it is quite anoying none the less. I am hoping that Marco of SMARTY fame could eliminate this issue, and have heard that this has been brought up before? I know other tuners(program writers) for other makes can delete/eliminate many features with programming alone.

I would greatly appreciate anyone's input. I have been seeing this code weekly for some time, and would very much like to put an end to it.

:)

Dave Goerend was supposed to have a solution for this code a while back. Have you called him to see if it will work for you?

Its not only the TC lockup that cuases it, a sticking valve in the VB will do it. A bad VB will also throw that code and sometimes others, depends sometimes on how the VB is setup also.

Thank you for the reply. I have spoken with Dave about this, and will double check with him regarding the fix you mentioned. My understanding is that when everything mechanical has been adressed, the only thing left is a programming solution. I've had the transmission scanned in real time and found no issues. Anyone else have this issue for some time?

Mine has done it twice in the last couple weeks. I have a stock transmission with a DTT shift enhanser and a Smarty I run on level 3. It has only done this on a couple days when it was cold out. The first time was putting it from park into reverse to back out of the drive way. The second time was when i was driving and switching from 4wd to 2 wd turning the knob. It happened one time a couple years ago before I had any mods. I had it reset at Auto Zone at that time and just blew it off as there was not much discussion about the P1740 code at that time. Seems to be cropping up more often for discussion recently.

If you see this code with a stock trans. then there may be an actual issue. I know that several have this code regularly after trans. upgrades.

I think the best solution would be to have the code bypassed/deleted via programming with SMARTY. I know of no other tuner that could address this annoyance, and hope that it wil be revisited. Is anyone else interested in this?

I believe it not a smarty thing but a tight TC thing. The rpms and speed don't jive and a code is set. I think I've had this with the stock sw after the DTT. I get this a good bit with the smarty sw. Either we'll need to put a resistor or some other fooling device in a trans sender or Marco will have to fix it with a sw change. Not a problem (on a built trans) but a nuisance.

I realize this is not an issue with SMARTY. I am suggesting, as you have, that this code will have to be corrected via programming. I'm sure there are many out there with upgraded transmissions that would like to see this code gone forever.

You got that right. I'd love not to see it again. I'd be great if Marco could re- set it so that it still worked but with the appropriate parameters for an aftermarket trans.

I had the 1740 code when I upgraded my T/C & V/B on my '05. . I was told it was somewhat common on the '05 specifically. I would just clear it and would pop up every few months. Never had transmission problems though!

That code pops up on me everytime I flash a new tune in the truck. If I clear it with the smarty it just comes back. If I just leave it the truck will clear itself(and store the code) and never comes back after that (till next reflash from smarty) Sometimes the truck will clear the code 2-3 days, but once it took 25-30days! That was anoying as I hate a check engine light even when I no nothings wrong!

I know the feeling. Maybe in the near future Marco & Co. will have a solution for us via SMARTY. I can't wait; that code is quite annoying.
