Thread on 5.9ISB cracked blocks on Bus sight

Dodge has been very smart to "sub out" the engine to a company who has a proven record. I bought both my trucks because of the Cummins, but have been very happy with the rest of the trucks. This new one continues to impress.

Ford boys-- come on over until they get it straight-- you might just see the light-

I really like ford trucks. In fact, I was going to buy a Ford gasser.

It was not until I decided to get a diesel that I started looking at other brands.

I am VERY happy with the decision I made, and will drive a diesel from now on.

I love Ford trucks too, but would rather have a great engine (Cummins) in a good truck (Dodge), than a crap engine (6. 0) in a great truck (Ford). I just like the Ford style. But, don't get me wrong, I am happy with my "Cummings" powered "Dudge"

Maybe when I am rich I will put a Cummins in a new Ford. Hey since I am at it, a 12 Valve in an F-350 for pulling/racing, a 24 Valve in an F-350 for street and others, and a commonrail in an F-350 for daily driving.

Well, that confirms my thinking; if I couldn't get a cummins ram, I'd buy a GMC Duramax before a Ford PSD. If I had to buy a Ford, I'd get a gasser.

the sad fact (for ford) is that international generally builds good engines. i think most people familiar with the DT466 would agree it is a reliable engine.

i believe the problem with the international built ford engine is that the ford engineers "stuck" their noses into the design and screwed it up. had they let international do ALL of the development, the engine would probably be better.

i have no first hand knowledge of this actually being the case, but based on other doomed cooperative efforts, it seems reasonable

its not just the engine the turbo is a piece of shti. everyone i know that has a 6L has had a problem. my friends co-worker blew his turbo up last week. he did not even have a chip on it. have you seen the cost of the filters for this POS wow. FORD just got it wrong on this one. Now Ford wants a v6 diesel to put in f150 and they are saying they might build it themselves. Ford has to be the most arrogant of all car makers. They were looking at the cummins and looks like they turned them down. how dumb can you be and f150 with a v8 cummins..... dude its a no brainer it would sell and last..... duuhhhh. Where is all of the common sense in the world these days... . it is not in the automotive industry.

Ford build a diesel! That's a HOOT! I used to spend time at Ford's Cleveland engine plant. Last I heard, Ford was calling back some real old timers, in fact most have passed away, to show the boys how to cast a block properly. A few came in, that were physically able, but never heard more then that.

Question: Do the hindus manufacture any diesel engines in India? Seeing as that Indians now comprise most of Ford's engineering department.

More good reading comming soon on mydieselstopped.com. :D

Pardon my ignorance

I've been in the backwoods too long..... What's this about a 6. 4 PSD? What is Ford doing, trying to set a record for different displacements? Or is it more trial and error? "THis size didnt work, let's try something else instead of fixing what we got. "

My Cummins is relatively slow off the line because of how I have the pump set (REAL tight AFC to cut smoke), but put a smaller exhaust housing on the turbo, and it barked the tires going into 3rd. But mine might be faster if my turbo was as small as what they V8s have.

i would definatly buy a duramax over a psd i have always been a gm guy but they now use a japanese engine not saying that isuzu makes bad engines they run forever but i dont want a jap engine in my American made truck

My sentiments exactly. Turns out my dodges have been more reliable though. Guess its just perception rather than reality. I havent owned a Superduty yet though.

International is quite capable of building great engines. In fact some of their engines are more reliable than the cummins. 8. 3 vs the 466. The t444e does pretty good in the mediums.
