Polluted Water Costs US Money

Have any of you ever drank filtered water or purchased bottled drinking water? Does anyone know how much Americans spend to treat our polluted waters to make them fit for consumption?



I think having to treat our water to make it fit for consumption is like a tax forced upon us by the industries that pollute it? Anyone have thoughts on this?

You think the lakes and streams are not pure because of what people did? If we got rid of factories do you think you could suck a mouthfull of water from any lake or stream? Bacteria is a naturally occuring organizm in the water that is needed to support many living creatures. How do you know the crystal clear stream doesnt have a dead animal floating in it a few hundred yards upstream? Its not like that is our fault. Up in Minnesota, the lakes and streams are clean enough to drink out of, and here in Central texas, The springs are very clean also. Most of the bacteria in water is naturally occuring and not man made. When bears crap in the woods next to a stream, where do you think that goes?? feel like filtering is a bad idea now????

Giardia is the main threat to drinking "wild" water and has been spread by humans with the help of animals. Other than that the vast majority of water from our public water systems, and most wild water are safe to drink, people just choose to drink bottled water because of taste and money to burn. If the water wasn't safe just washing your dishes in it could spread disease, don't see many folks washing with bottled or boiled water...

My feeling is that many folks immune systems have been weakened from living in sterile environments with nothing for their bodies to practice on and would be better off drinking out of their local river. I don't feel very many of our waterways are polluted from human industrial activities, we've cleaned up that act. Heck I drink out of irrigation ditches...

I've spent some time in alot of different countries, and our water is pristine compaired to thier... . There is a reason you are told not to drink the water when visiting 3rd world countries. Course I laugh at people that only drink alcohol or soda in those countries, and have to ask them where they got the ice for thier drinks from... . When I was in Korea, after you were there for a little while, you would get what is termed as the Korean Crud... . and it was a ***** to get over. It was your bodies way of adapting to the environment over there, and once you got it, you were fine there after.

Mother Nature filters out much of the natural contaminates. Most sub-surface water contamination is a result of industry dumping and our failure to responsibly manage our waste. Giardia, I believe is an introduced protozoan, not indigenous to the U. S.

Oklahoma is suing Arkansas over pollution in the Illinois River. Someone from Arkansas suggested we dam the river and then pipe the contents down to Texas.



BTW - The Illinois eventually flows into the Arkansas River and back to Arkansas.

That contention on the illinois has been going on for as long as I can remember... . will it ever be done, probably not.

I just think it's funny when people ***** that gas is expensive if it goes over $1. 25/gallon but they don't think nothing of putting a dollar in a vending machine for 12 oz of water...
