Just thought I'd let others know of the poor customer support and product I got from Road Armor.

I have had my two bumpers for just over a year now that I got off a group purchase from this website and the finish on the rear bumper is horrible. Once receiving the bumpers a little over a year ago I noticed the finish on the rear bumper was not what I expected on a set of $3000 bumpers. I tried many times to get in touch with Road Armor and still to this day have had no success in doing so. I've sent letters, called many times over, sent emails, and even one sertified letter that came back. The finish on my rear bumper is peeling off in sections now, with almost all the edges either being completely bare metal or bubbling up to where they will soon peel and expose the metal. The front is also showing it's poor finish job as well. The welds are all starting to rust through the coating and in some places there are rock chips that go right down to the bare metal. This was even after paying an extra $350 for the better finish with clear coat on it. :( It's now too late for me to do anything since the 1 year warranty on the finish is up so it's now my baby since Road Armor never retruned my letters, emails, or calls but I just didn't want anyone else to make the mistake I did and waste all their hard earned money on a company that has No Customer Service and produces such a poor product.

This sounds typical for RA customers. I've heard many complaints that RA powdercoat jobs suck and they have poor customer service. My customer service was so BAD I got denied the GP and even to buy from RA by James the owner himself. My buddy Doug's customer service and craftsmanship by RA was so poor he started his own aftermarket bumper line, OFF ROAD ALLOYS!

Thought about showing up at the door but that's all the way on the other coast and I just don't have that kind of time to waste here at work. :(

Like I said, I just don't want anyone else to make the same mistake. If you want one of their bumpers have it shipped unfinished and take it to someone that knows what they are doing. I'm in the process right now of locating someone locally that can recoat them for me. Here in Southern Indiana there aren't too many powerder coating shops so I'm still looking but hopefully soon I will find someone that can help.

E-mail them the link to this thread and tell them that you will follow up with how they take care of you so you can let everyone know.

When I was looking to buy my bumper I talked to RA. I mentioned some features offered by other bumper outfits and they said bad things about all of them. People that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones and I wasn't impressed with the way I was treated. Not the way I do business so I bought a Buckstop.

Sorry that your having all of these problems. Hopefully word gets around and they either change their ways or go under. How long had you been trying to contact them? I'm surprised they wouldn't answer the phone.

I haven't tried calling them in about 3 months now but I actually tried to call them 2 days after receiving the bumpers. That was when it all started. I called and got the answering service. I left a message and never heard anything back from that point on out and it's been over a year now. :( I'm taking pics of all the bad spots tomorrow and dating them for my own peace of mind but I just assume to fix it myself now. I may try one more time to call them but I'm sure it will be the same old thing.

Kokomo has a powder coating shop that is supposed to be good. If you want the number I can get it for you.

There is also a powder coat shop in Mentone. They don't do walk ins. But the plant manager has his own powder coat shop at home where he does outside jobs.

I don't know of any shops down in your neck of the woods.

I hate it when stuff like this happens. I've nearly had as bad of an experience with the manufacturer of my exhaust system (MBRP). I'm going to save the link to this thread and post it whenever someone gets on here asking about Road Armor products. We're behind you Darrell!

Good luck getting everything worked out.

Darrell, call Rick at Carrara custom powder coaters, he does a lot of the sprint car frames around here. 765-643-3430. If you like, give me the bumpers in Terre Haute this weekend and I'll drop them off on my way home. I need to stop there anyway and give him my step bars. He is in Anderson, which I go by everytime I head to Indy.

just spend a couple extra bucks and get them linex'd ? Powder coat can/will/and does come off no matter what. Line-x shouldn't.

Good Luck, sounds like you'll need it when calling again.

Call the Better buisiness bureau

I would call the BBB about road armor, if they're a member, you can file a complaint and trash them there if you want. Sorry for your loss.

I've got to stick up for RA here. They make a quality bumper and in my experience have great customer service. They bent over backwards when I had a problem with my first one (lets just say it probably cost them $1000 to fix the problem and they did). Now granted---It is weird that you've contacted them and no one is returning calls and such, but in my experience they are a top notch company. I agree with the post above----powdercoat in general sucks---go with LineX or Rhino. Stuart

Sorry fellas but they won't be Line X'd or any other rubberized coating. That stuff just looks like Poo if it's not in a truck bed IMO. Plus that stuff holds dirt in it, that can only be removed with some serious elbow grease. If it's going to be on my truck it's going to be shiney. :cool: I've talked with 3 powder coaters this week, one doesn't have a large enough oven to do the bumpers, the other two can do bike frames so they said there would be no problem on coating the bumpers. Both of those shops are giving me a 5 year waranty on their finish. The one even said he would waranty rock chips if they go completely through the top coat. It's just a shame RA doesn't have as good as finish as these guys do. :confused: Two of the 3 guys said what's on my bumpers doesn't even look like powder coat. :rolleyes: Looks like I'll have about $350 in getting them refinished, that includes the media blasting to get off the old junk coating of what ever they put on. :-{}

One thing I find really strange is that the phone # and address on my bill is no longer used by RA and I can't find their address on the website any more either. The # they now have on the website is a moble #, and that's kind of fishy when a buisness doesn't have a land line to use for contacting them.

OUCH! What a bummer after all that $$. Good luck, hope you get satisfaction. Powder coating made me nervous after Smittybilt rails went south 5 months after warranty. Instead I went stainless for the bumper. The Prozap winch bumper was also $$ but after 6+ years I have NO complaints, 'cept I think they shoulda made rear bumpers-with storage!!

Why don't you take the Road Armor add out of your signature? At least make some comment like 'they suck'.

Didn't even notice it was in there. I don't pay that much attention to my own sig.

Better now!

There is a member up this way with a set of RA bumpers that had them Rhino'd and I gotta say they look sick! Many of the liner companies have the ability to get the product smooth like paint ... . and colormatched taboot Oo.

How about Not ;) Even if someone or a company is in the wrong it really is not O. K to bash them on the open www.
