Hi, I've got a friend with an '01, AT, 2500, 4x4. He's getting 12-17 mpg unloaded mixed (city/highway).

What has been common causes of low mileage?

We searched but couldn't find any specific topics. He's checking for air leaks, but we're wondering about computer resets, etc. Are there any TSB's for mileage that reprograms the computer?

19, your friend's engine is quite a bit different than yours, and as such will not perform the same. The 12V engines always seem to get a little better fuel economy than the 24V's. His numbers seem dead on from what I've read about his combo. Does he have 4. 10's?

FWIW, and this may start a whole flurry of these, my '01 5spd 4x4 (See sig) gets almost the same economy and there's nothing to lead me to believe it is abnormal. I have the 3. 55 gears, but I run the truck medium to hard after she warms up. 75 on the highway, and city street shifts at 2500-2800 rpm.

The 12 sounds low. I have 84k now and with a slipping transmission I'm getting 16. 9 with my daily Bay Area commute. Trips I get close to 19. I did notice that my shell droped my "New Truck" mileage about 15%.

Out on the penisula there might be the commute traffic issue?

He might try cleaning the IAT sensor.

I am only running 275 injectors now but stock the trucks lowest was ~14 when new.

Good luck, Mike

Thanks for this input. He has the 3. 5's.

I've been looking for a TSB but nothing yet.

PS... . I do like my 12V... . although may get a 2004. 5 after a bit (I'll keep my 1st gen though)

If you get a 4. 5 be prepared for a milage drop. It will make your freinds look like a econo buggy.
