2006 Megacab 3500 6 speed. 12500 mi.

Traded in 2002 2500 6 speed had few mod. done to it. Also had 1999 auto. New truck is getting an average of 14 mpg with what feels like half the power. Truck feels like it does not get its power til 2400 rpm. Is all all of the new trucks like this? New member to TDR. Really disappointed in the new truck!Any suggestion would really be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

The power thing doesnt sound rite to me but the only way your probably going to be able to tell for sure is if you go back to the dealer and get them to let you drive another rig.

That being said, the newer high HP stock trucks dont hold a candle to the low end grunt of an older bombed truck.

Thanks,I have not thought of driving a different rig to see if i can feel a difference. Had an edge ez, 4" banks exhaust, and afe stage 1 on the 2002 with 3. 55 gears with 3. 15 mud terrain tires. Should there be be a big power difference in the 2002 and the new megacab?

'07 Impressions

thats what i thought. Nowhere near the power empty or pulling on what could be the problem

My '99 w/EZ,DTT,and Mach 1. 6's would smoke my '07. Stock, the '99 was a slug compared to this '07. Considering the massive improvements in steering, braking, and stiffer frame, the '07 is well worth it. I will be "enhancing" the '07 when broken in. This truck does have the pulling power, but at a higher rpm it seems.

Got a 2006 Mega cab w/a 6 speed. I am averaging around 14 mpg in winter time (winter blend diesel here in Alaska), and 16 in summer. I agree that it seems that I have to romp the crap out of it to get it to move (2400 RPM seems about right). As far as I have heard, it deals somewhat with fuel pressure. I am sure someone much smarter than me will chime in here.

What you are experiencing is normal... ... ... ..... The emissions software is the shortcoming. I am sure your 99 had a bit higher nox and pm than your 06.

If you are willing to put up with a little puff, the smarty will put a smile back on your face.

as for the mileage epa required cummins a 3rd injector spray simply for Emissions to keep NOX emmissions in check. NOX emissions are secret to tuning for better economy. If you have high NOX you have good economy. as for the power I am not unsure since you could not provide a base judgement on how the power was and the current power. Definitely consider a downloader like that of Smarty, PPE, Bully Dog.

I agree with those who say what you're experiencing is normal. The turbo on the 04. 5's and up takes much longer to spool up and at higher rpm's in my opinion. I went from an '01 HO 6 spd. w/EZ to my current ride and felt the same way you do. However, I learned the power is there, it just comes on differently. Mileage is not that far off esp. w/ winter fuel and an engine not fully broken in yet.

i really liked the edge on my 02 but im thinking about getting the smarty is it easy to use? i drove from tn to texas last weekend about 2000 miles round trip pulling a 16' car hauler to get a mustang ran 80-85mph got 10mpg made me sick

Don't have the Mega Cab (see sig) but I've averaged just under 14mpg in my 2005 since new. I have recorded every gallon of diesel that has gone into my truck, so I know it's accurate. Most of my driving is local, in town, with occasional trailer pulls and trips. I don't ride it hard, and I can get 17 or 18mpg on trips, staying below 63mph unloaded. I just don't think the new 3rd gens get as good mileage as the 2nd gens...

i to have checked my mpg since new with a calculater . 15. 7 is the best i have got. should have left calculater in old truck.
