this morning I made a 110 mile trip and the cruise control worked just fine (like normal) at 79 MPH, fueled up, drove 25 miles around town, replaced the right side battery and when I got on the freeway headed home it would not lock into cruiseat anything over 75 MPH and one it didnt do it just under... ... . what is up with it? vaccuum problem... . any ideas???? HELP! Jim

Hi,

Which battery did you replace? If it was the drivers side are you sure you didn't bump or move anything?

Just a thought,

Food for thought...

I just battled this same problem on my bosses "non-bombed" '97 when we switched trucks for the night (... I had to let him see what he was missing... ).

Anyway, his cruise quit working and his thermostat wouldn't redirect air flow(of course this happens when I'm driving it!!!). I did some digging and found that the rubber elbow coming off the vacuum pump was collapsing. Over time, the rubber got soft... soft enough that with the vacuum present from the pump, it completely collapsed it and there was no vacuum present for the accessories. Check that fitting and I bet it's the culprit!

Good luck!
