Popping in front end

My '00 2500QC pops sometimes when I make a sharp turn or when I slow to a stop. It is a firm pop, seems to be in the passenger side. Crazy, but I notice it more when it is raining or humid. May just be a coincidence as I have only had truck 2 months. I first thought it may be the plastic wheel tub jumping from its housing, but it is too firm a pop for that.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Mine did that too and it ended up being the telescoping joint of the steering shaft. Damp weather brought it out mostly. I went ahead and replaced it, lubricating the joint with chassis grease and it's all gone now.

I too have had a anoying noise coming from my front end. On the first inspection a friend and I came to the conclusion it was a bad front shock. I have a 2001 4x4 2500 with 12500 miles. Last week I changed the cheap factory shocks made in Brazil with a set of Monroe (sensatrac) p/n 37782ST (special for the 8800lb class). The noise seamed to go away for a few days but now is back with a vengence. Digging deeper just tonight I found the cause of all the noise. It's coming from the botton shock bolt. This bolt is far to lose in the shock,the sholder is just over 1/2 inch long when it should be over 2inches. The sleve in the bottom of the shock is now resting on the bolt threads that are getting peened flat making even more slop in the fit. The cure for this is another bolt that fits. At this time I have at least . 035 th. up and down play on the bottom of the shocks. And it sounds like H***.

I have just started noticing knocking noises from the front but can feel them in the floorboards passengers notice the knocking more than me. It is annoying and I couldn't see anything loose. This just started after I had my tires rotated. Is this the same kind of thing you are experiencing?
More thoughts on this thread would be appreciated.

I've got a mystery pop / clunk coming from the passenger side floorboard in my '97 as well, I've been trying to find it for 3 years now. I've checked shocks, ball joints, replaced the whole hub assembly (because it needed it, steering linkages, etc. and I still can't find it. You seem to feel it more than hear it... .

Hey guys I posted an earlier thread about the same problem. What I and my dealership found was the passengers side bottom bolt on the shock. My local dealer said that this is becoming more frequent. I used a 1/2 inch. impact and rattled the holyness out of it. No more banging. My new shocks came with new inserts and they were a tight fit. I have had to re-tighten the same bolt after about 7100 miles, but it hasn't loosened up since. Hope this helps.

If i stand in the driver doorway and bounce and shake the truck i can make it happen. However I can't duplicate it bouncing from the passenger side.
I'll look at the shock bolts and see if they need tightened

Found the snorkle to the airbox just flopping around. I'll secure it and see if i still get the knocking noises.

Jim! I also found the snorkel flopping around about 2 mounths ago. I stuffed the flaired end into the box. No noise since then

I'm having the same problem with my 2001 dually... both my son and I have noticed it, a popping noise that can be felt, but not heard, in the passenger floorboards...
Previous experience with new trucks and years of working in the off-road aftermarket led me to suspect it might be the shocks, it certainly "felt" like it... The "shocks" they put on new trucks these days look like shocks, but aren't, they're just tubes with a built-in self-destruct date, #ad

My 97 4x4 had a similar popping noise. It turned out to be the driver side upper and lower ball joints. It took awhile for the dealer to figure it out. It got to the point that I could make it happen while the truck was stationary by turning the steering wheel lock to lock.

In three instances of popping felt in the floorboards, it turned out to be a front end part and not shocks on my truck. First it was the trackbar, second and third, either end of the draglink.

These worn parts are pretty easy to identify. Have someone saw the steering wheel back and forth 3-6 inches with the engine running and look at the joints. If they are worn, it will be obvious.

Dealer finally found the problem and claims mine is due to a worn stabilizer bar, so it goes in next Thurs. to be replaced under warranty. Hope he is right. Or maybe I don't, so I can get some more new parts on my "fastapproachingendofwarranty" truck.

Hey, in my haste to try to correct this myself, I did something really stupid I guess. I applied a little grease to the upper and lower control arm bushings. I then got my manual and read to not do this. Is this going to cause premature wear, and if so, is there a good way to get it out?
Or, should I just leave it alone and quit worrying about it?
I promise I will not do anything again until I ask the experts on the TDR.
