For those of you who have had this problem this info may help. My truck was making a slight popping feeling/noise in the steering wheel when making slow turns or going over small bumps. Also noticed a small amount of sideways play in the steering wheel, close to where the tilt is on the column. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the upper steering column (inside cab) under warranty (truck has 22,000 miles). They said there was a worn bearing in the column (in my opinion probably defective). Now it's as tight as a drum. Oo.

Thought this may help those of you who have been trying to diagnose similar problems on your trucks.

Good Luck,

Bill

yes, they did mine the same way at 19,000 miles. I thought that it was the clockspring, but they knew better. Popping, clicking, -whatever. It's a hard noise to describe.

Yes it is, and it is also a hard noise to isolate and diagnose. I've seen many educated guesses given when it comes to noises like this, track bar, tie rods, steering knuckles, lower steering column, steering box, even loose shock mounts. No doubt many of them are correct. Just wanted to add this to the list of possibilites.

you can feel the poping in the column kinda like if you wrapped a broom handle with a belt and ythen turned it woul kinda pop as it turn instead of being smooth.

Mine is getting this rather bad but I have 75K so I know its not covered
