I keep getting a loud popping noise when I turn to the right and up a incline. Like pulling into a drive way to the right. I have taken it to the 5***** dealer twice and they can't find anything... any ideas? I am thinking its the torshion bar linkage... thanks

I have the same issue. I thought it was the control arms or track bar. A couple $K later and new KORE equipment it does the same thing

I took the truck to a good front end shop. While we were looking at some other issues I noticed a slight pop from the steering shaft. I think the joint near the steering box is binding. I have ordered a borgeson replacement to see if it will eliminate the issue.

my '05 4x4 quad cab has done it since new, stock xcept 4 2" lift spacer in front and 33" tires. just figured i was cutting too hard to get in the driveway...

Hi Guys,

We have seen trucks make this noise. It is usually an improper torqued track bar. Put 120 lb-ft of torque on the bolt under the steering box to cure that noise. If not,

It could be a half shaft.

I have a 4x2 that had the same problem you had. I found the problem to be the front spring drivers side which slides around in the pocket (lower control arm) when loaded up. I greased the lower control arm and no noise for a few months but its comming back a bit now. Try this out and see if it helps you and let me know.

May need some custom tubular control arms... hehehehehe.

My Jeep does it two. It's the spring moving in the bucket under load. I use oil to quiet it but the greese should woork too. Lifted, even with spacers makes the problem more noticeable because the buckets don't line up perfectly anymore due to the geometry of the arms.

IV had the same prob for a couple of months and was wondering what was causing it.

Mine isnt so much a poping as a grinding sound.

Thanks for posting it. Now Iv got something to have checked out.

+1 on this cure, it fixed mine. Take a look at the tab/wing coming off where the bolt is at, there were signs that it was moving back and forth creating the popping noise.

What I have found:

The bolt on the track bar must be torqued to 120 lb ft to not slip. If it does slip, it will make a loud "Bang" or "Pop" when turning. I had a bolt that would not take a proper torque and hold it. Six bucks and it was fixed.

Might what to check the wheel bearings. I went through Hurrican Wilma here in Cancun with water halfway up my truck and well water got in them and did its worst on my front wheel bearings. My truck also did that with the stock suspension before the wheel bearings. When I installed my KORE CHASE System that pop stopped. Then the Hurrican Hit.

I know this one's a few weeks old, but I just wanted to reaffirm the track bar bolt torque. I had popping that started a few days ago. After researching here and finding this thread, I went outside to try the cheap remedies prior to throwing money at the ball/u-joints. The bolt was still tight and I probably got less than half a turn on it, but that was the trick. :) Hope this helps someone.

I tried the same thing... . Thanks Greg!!! That did the trick... the ***** dealer was looking for the problem for 1 year and never did find it. The good folks on this site did if for me.

The service manager at the dealership told me to look online, because they had not clue.

Thanks, to all... . Oo.

Can someone explain better to me where this bolt is? I have a pop when full lock to the left and i let go of the steering wheel to turn back straight. I gotta get it firgured out.

Look for the Track Bar. It is the diagonal bar that mounts under the drivers side frame and drops down to the axle by the passenger side shock. Torque is very high. Around 160 lb ft of torque. One half turn is a huge amount of movement. Tighten it as much as possible with a breaker bar. That should do it.
