Anyone know what would cause a popping or backfire that sounds like it may be in the exhaust system under the hood? I had this happen a few times while returning home, towing my 5th wheel trailer, (after traveling about 500 miles). It would pop a couple of times and the truck would jerk like a car with a miss. This happened a total of 5 times in about 30 minutes then never occured again the rest of the way home, (about 400 miles). A few days earlier in the trip we noticed a strong exhaust smell in the cab when stopping for red lights.

Does sound like the turbo is sticking. Mine is acting up pretty bad right now. I am going to take it off and see if I can clean it.

If it does it again, I'd be looking at the EGR valve, my 09 TDI jetta did the same thing and after 23000 km found a bad EGR.

My 2007 6. 7 will do this under load when it is in the DE-SOX part of the regen. It feels like it is running rougher during the de-soot part at 1,050 EGT but pulls okay. When the EGT goes to 1,125 in the DE-SOX then it will have an occasional miss that can be heard and felt. This happens empty or loaded and may happen 2 or 3 times during the DE-SOX. It never misses under any normal conditions. I am currently on the AU flash and it has been working good with no more CEL's for over 20k now. I just turned 39,000.

What flash is the 08 diesel auto at now? i have "AS" it is running running well no issues any notable changes since this flash?

Latest 08 flash

Austin: Just got mine reflashed after "Turbo Boost Not Detected" code# P02262 CEL. The latest flash code for an 08 6. 7 is AX. I must say it made a BIG difference in accelleration and power coupled with lower RPM's. Good flash indeed! Now gonna have to check fuel mileage again too. :D
