Popping out of 3rd gear

I've got a new 2001. 5 ETC/DDX that only has 1200 miles on it. The problem I am having is that the transmission likes to pop out of 3rd gear on a downshift from 4th when coming to a stop type intersection. It doesn't do it all the time, only now and again(maybe 6-8 times so far)but I know it shouldn't do it and it kinda bugs me when it happens. Nothing seems to cause it in particular from what I can tell,and I can put it back into gear if I want to after it happens. Any thoughts?

I'd set up an appointment at the dealier. When any trans starts popping out of gear on it's own it not good imo... Sorry to hear of your trouble, hope it gets fixed fast.

There is definitely a problem. I have over
19,000 miles on my 2001 ETC/DDX 3500 4x4.
It has never jumped out of gear on me and I
do drive it hard sometimes. (Nice thing
about the DDX is that you can shift it like
a Vette transmission, real fast! It's slick! The
6 speed its not like that). I do a lot of
downshifting to facilitate engine braking
coming to a stop quite often as well.

Sounds like a trip to the dealer is a good
idea. Might be a good idea to post a message
on the board here to see if anyone has had
any good or bad experiences with the dealer
you plan on taking it to for the service,
and any recommendations for good dealers in
your area that have experience with the Ram
Cummins and transmissions.

Sorry to hear it. I don't have the same gearbox, but I would say, as scary as it sounds, let a dealer look at it... It isn't right.
By the way, with the exception of of the infamous 3rd gear clash, I can shift as fast as I can move my lever... 3rd is the weakest link in trying to win from a light. I think our '89 auto would win from a stop for a while... takes a while for the turbo to remember to go, but stays in first 'till 37 mph.

You can e-mail me about a dealer... luckily I haven't taken anything in, however my "parts are in" at the dealer where I bought it... I need to see what's there. I ordered up a center console and they are getting a new rear diff. clutch pack, even though it was in specs, so that I may become satisfied (hopefully) with the $285 I wasted on the "LSD", "lotsa-slip-differential". I'll let you know how that goes if you can wait that long...

A friend of mine has a '97 and his 5spd would pop out of 3rd. Turned out New Venture Gear installed the syncro wrong (backward I think).
