First, I'm posting here because this is the forum from which it happened.

Is TDR using popunder ads? I replied to a post and all of a sudden, I had a popunder for that stupid X10 camera. If that's the case, I'm going to have to enable my proxy and eliminate ALL the ads from this site when I visit... .

If it's not, I need to do some investigating for spyware that's generating the stupid things. Adaware came up clean last night.

I have long thought the same thing. Sometimes TDR is the only site I visit after cleaning my drives and I wind up with those annoying ads.

Go to panicware.com and get the Pop-Up Stopper software. It's free and eliminates ALL pop-up ads from ever getting on your screen. It's great

I complained of the same thing a couple of months ago, admin said they're not coming from TDR. As far as I can figure either my ISP or links that some folks use for graphics in their signatures is sneaking them in. Popup Killer takes care of them with a very satisfying bomb blast, download for free. IE 6. 0 will stop the searching cookie eyes, also free.

I've been surfing TDR for a long time and have NEVER seen a popup-under window from TDR. I've seen it from other sites that I visit. For example, if I go to www.weatherunderground.com for the first time of the day, I will always get one.

I suggest the following:

Re-boot your computer (just a clean slate) and open up your Internet browser. Look at your task bar to see if only one opened or more, if more, see what they are and close them. Wait a bit since some of those popups will start up another one when you try to close one of them. If that is the case, you have to be very fast or get off the page you are on with the main browser. Once you have all the extra pages closed, go to TDR and then see if anything has opened up.

What I find annoying is the stupid Gator.com thing. That installed on a work pc and also at home, never prompted or anything, just installed without me knowing it!

Again, I have never seen TDR have these popup windows, nor should there be since we (members) are paying for the magizine and also being able to post to this site, which I would think would help pay for it so then we don't have to have those popup windows.

JMHO...

I don't have any problems w/popups at all on my home computer. BUT at work w/so many people using it, there all over the place.

Never had a pop-up here at the TDR! Oo.

I use Pop-Up Stopper by Panicware. If you come to a screen that gives you an error on page, Just hold down the Ctrl key and hit the Button again and it will let you bring in a new browser with the page you are trying to access.

No pop-up ads more either. If you worry about them, then you should check out your cookies too. That is where most spammers get you.

Don't mind me just another computer consultant

Some observations of mine from myself and working with clients.

No popups have ever come to me by TDR ... believe them they are clean.

If anyone is using a free webservice as their connection it is the service dumping popups on you. Check to see you opening page as the web starts up on you machine. I would be suspicous the first page that opens it Netscape or MSN's search page and I have see popups from them. Depending on the speed the come from the net you may be well into TDR before the finish loading and you see them.

Just some things I notice while at work.

HTH
