Great new site(mostly)

Paint Over Rust. I have heard about it for years. Living in the rust belt, my frame is starting to show rust. I like the sounds of this stuff, but as always, I want to Hear from fellow Diesel heads!

Any comments would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Gene

Gene,
I put some on my truck last year and will try again soon. It goes on very hard. It seems to work but in some areas I don't think I prepped it well enough and it pealed. What ever you do DON'T get it on your skin! It doesn't come off well at all. It takes time to brush it on but I can't see trying to spray it when I had the problem of getting it off my head/arm/etc. I would also suggest taking a wire brush to rusted areas before hand. As far as how well it works??? I've only had it one for one winter. It looks similar to a spray in bedliner material without the chunks. As far as rust, someone suggested to me an electical device that inhibits rust that can be bought from JC Whitney. I haven't had experience with that though.

A buddy of mine, and I, used it in the gas tank of a 1972 Charger. It is the only stuff that could resist gasoline. Prepping the surface is critical. What we did was strap the tank to an engine stand, fill it full of jagged rocks, and turn it over by hand for 1/2 hr. The noise was deafening but it cleaned out all the rust. Then we rinsed the inside with acetone, and let it dry. Poured in the POR-15 and rolled the tank to coat it. Works like a dream. I would highly recommend the stuff. If you look online you can find it pretty cheap too.

I see the main site also sells surface prep stuff.
It does say the only thing to take it off is TIME.
How much time?
I sprayed undercoating last summer, and it is GONE! Not a trace!
I would like to find some guys with long term salt exposure.

POR-15

Gene, I have been using POR-15 on various vehicles for better than ten years. This product is the only "paint" that will not allow rust to reappear if the surfaces are properly prepared with a POR-15 pre wash. The only problem I have had is the black color oxidizes from sunlight, the paint is prone to breakdown from ultra violet light. Try it, you wont be disappointed. Rick.

This product is just about bullettproof..... prep is foremost in the application... . As far as UV eatin' it up... . I paint it ... ... ... . #ad

Hey Gene, it's great stuff! I coat my butts with it before I throw them out at your intersection! JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!

You might try Naval Jelly, You can get it at the hardware store, Lowes has it. I have had good luck with it. turns rust back to metal, Just brush it on. it now comes in a spray can to, but I have not tryed the spray can. The inside of my motorcycle gas tank at the top was getting rust, I clean off as much as I could, then just put some jelly on a paper towel and wipe it on, that was last year, and so far so good, the rust has not come back. :D

PS. It was in the Paint Dept at Lowes

POR-15 is the standard in the auto restoration industry. Sometimes you can get really good deals on it in Hemming's Motor news. The key is in the prep work.
