Well I guess you can believe it if you want, but I just don't see many CTD that will even begin to run with a porsche in any kind of a High Speed test. But next time I go to the drag strip or to any of the professional races where it is legal to do that kind of stuff I'll keep my eyes open for the mighty CTD. Meanwhile I hope I don't run in to any of those type of people who are willing to act that foolish and brag about it on a site like this one. Centrum Silver or not, stupidity doesn't pay and it is only a matter of time before some one will get hurt or worse. I reccomend if you want to show just how mighty your CTD is go pay the entrance fee and send us the real results.

I am not sharing this story to prove anything, just thought others on this site might appreciate it. I can think of better things to do than dream up a story to post on the internet, I think I have better things to do.

If you don't want to believe it, great, no skin off my nose.

Perhaps you have never been in a twin turbo Cummins.

Donn, about what part of the country are you in? There are diesel events at some of the tracks around the country and they're a lot of fun to watch, and quite a show for someone who's never been to one before. Keep an eye on the Events forum, you oughta try and make it to one :) Sled pulls are fun too.

One thing that is so much fun about diesel performance is 7000lb trucks doing things they are not supposed to be able to do

EDIT: Donn, this one's for you :D http://bhaner.com/videos/DT8_28_04/fletcher.avi

Most 12 second cars are barely touching the 100's in the 1/4 mile.

Huh? Are you feeling OK, Justin?

They must be cutting 1. 3 short times and letting off at 3/4 track to get a 12 second pass and stay right around 100mph... :)

You don't actually believe that line of crap ? I guess I'll enter my CTD in the indy 500 and really show them what a diesel will do

Donn, I believe him... In case you haven't noticed, there are alot of very fast trucks on this site, yes faster than many stock Porsches.

When is the last time anyone saw a Porsche of any sort at the Indy 500?

However, a Cummins was there, back in the day...

My truck was set up for pulling, and I ran with a new Vette to 110, 2 years ago, then he started to pull away- but he kept looking in the mirror, like wth? :-laf

On the way home from work today I had one of those races that you feel to need to share, it was great! I was on a 20 mile two lane highway out by Firebird raceway and I saw a new 996 Porsche coming up behind me. I was doing about 75, so I figure he was doing about 85. There was a car in front of me so I quickly went around him and the guy in the Porsche had to slow down.

This made him mad to he steps on it and trys to leave me, I set my box to 5X5 and he could not get around me, now he is really mad. We both slowed down to about 80, he then tried to show be how fast his Porsche was again. He takes off first, I reel him back in and at about 115mph I let off. He comes up next to me, I roll my windows down and he won't even look at me, he must be wondering why his new $75,000 car can't out run a big Dodge on 35" tires. :{

I slowed down and he wants to run again. He was in the left lane, I was in the right doing about 75mph. He takes off first and has me by a bumper for about 1 second. This time I had to rub it in, so I stuck my hand out the window and waved bye, bye and smiled. We ran to about 120mph and I had him by about 2. 5 lengths. I had moved over to his lane and I saw a patrol car up ahead so I hit the brakes. He thinks I am messing with him so he swerves over to the other lane and blows my me and the cop. Needless to say, I kept going on home and he got to chat with the officer. It was priceless. :D

This guy would not give me a smile or a thumbs up. He was upset and would not even look at me. Which is why I didn't mine him getting pulled over. Oo.

Well... ... this is kinda strechin' it a bit, don't ya think? I own both a CTD and a Porsche 88' 944 Turbo and I have to tell ya there ain't no way I could be taken from a standstill, rollin start or even a head start (providin' the headstart wasn't over a couple car lengths by one of trucks unless it was making unreal HP and then I'd have to give it a try. And the newer Porsches are typically faster than me. Not all but most, make more HP and don't give up much in the weight department. C'mon now I can be at 140 mph in less than a minute and I know there ain't no one crazy enough to drive one of trucks at that speed even if they could go that fast.

One member got his '97 Dually 4x4 up to 135mph with a 4k GSK and GV overdrive. Is that [almost] fast enough?

I have 315 tires on my truck and haven't recalibrated the speedometer from the original tire size (245). I found a tire size comparison calculator online and it shows that I have a discrepancy of 13. 6% with my speedometer. I was racing someone the other month and my speedometer showed 118 - so I was actually travelling at 134 mph. I did this with a damaged turbo wheel (it was worn down approximately half way. Long story). I could have and would have easily gone faster. It's not that difficult to get these big trucks going that fast. Heck, some guys are doing 102 mph, 113 mph, and more in a quarter mile!

Doug

All i can say is i have a 76 Trans Am 455 4 speed, with a 462 stroker motor in it. Solid cam, victor intake, dominator carb, ram air 4 round port heads, h beam rods, teflon coated pistons. It runs about 11. 90 in the quarter mile at 114 MPH, this is an average run, fastest so far was 11. 73 at 116. It does this on DOT drag radials, in full street trim (3. 42 gears), 4000 lbs race weight. I raced my buddys twin turbo 12 valver from a standing start and got away from him for 60 feet, and held ahead through the 1/4 mile run, but when we got out on the highway and ran from 70 to 110, he got the jump on me and stayed ahead, so that mighty CTD is a lot badder than some people like to assume when you pour the BOMBs on.

What I am seeing in this post is this... ... Guys that are new around here... . under 150 posts... . They haven't seen Maddogs truck run a 10, they don't know who HVAC was (RIP buddy) and they haven't met Piers. How about Jetpilots truck? How about Jim Fullmer? Big power. Those trucks could do it. I have heard, and done the calcluations that 650hp will get a 7000lbs truck into the 12's in the quarter if it's set up right.

As for whining about what is legal and "stupid," Talk to the guys on Crotch Rockets... I don't know a guy that has one that, unless it's raining, it's been over 100mph every day. How about a Semi doing 80 or 90mph. Oh ya... . if it's SO dangerous... . why does Germany have the Autobaughn? As for the Speed Rating on the tire..... Check out what speed most trucks are dynoed up to... ... I have yet to see a tire come appart on a dyno...

Josh

PS, Good Job FST!

DMoon, You are being ignorant... have you seen some of the 1/4 mile times posted on these forums? There are some extrememly fast CTD trucks out there. Did you look at the Modifications on 1FSTDSL's truck, in his profile? I am guessing he makes between 500 & 600 HP! There were some fast Porsche production cars made, but most of them aren't that quick, better known for there handling than their speed. Yes once you get above say 110 mph, the Porsche will keep going, but sheer quickness and acceleration I doubt it will measure up to a truck with twin turbos and the other mods he has. There are quite a few diesel trucks running sub 13 second 1/4 mile times, a handfull running sub 12...

Check this out it may enlighten you on some production cars 1/4 mile times:

Then scan down here to see your 944 turbo... I think you would be embarrased by many of the posters on here!

I don't have the formulae, can someone crunch the 1/4 mile time etc from this data?

Horsepower: 296@6,800 rpm

Curb weight: 2920 lbs

Data is for a 1998 Porsche 996, from here: Porsche 996

Also note that the 996 shares the same basic body as the Boxter (201 hp and 2950lb source ). If that is what was raced (Boxter), then, the story is more believable.

AV8R, If you look at my last post, I provided a couple of links... the first link shows an 05' Boxter 'S' series which is the high performance version and puts out 280 HP, it ran a 13. 4 1/4 mile.

BTW: I just looked at your link it provided the following for the 996:

Performance:

0-60mph: 4. 6 seconds

0-1/4 mile: 13. 2s

Top Speed: 175 mph

That is very fast for a production car, but there are even women on this site with Trucks that will blow the doors off that Porsche! :-laf
