Can someone give me some feedback on pulling after they have ported their heads. Is the reduction in EGTs worth the cost?

I have a slight coolant leak and if the retorque does not fix the problem I was considering going back with a ported head while it's already off.

Here's what I'm considering:

New Cast HD Ported Head from Piers: Stage 2 porting / Oringed

14 mm head studs

ATS manifold

The best guess is this shopping list is about $3,500 or more.

What stage porting is best for pulling?

Is the new casted HD head worth the cost?

What head gasket is the better replacement?

Where is the better price/value for head porting and these parts?

Any advice would be appreciated.

That particular head is very nice, i've got one. Get the stage two, new casting, marine gasket, if your gonna use 14mm studs have Piers ream the bolt holes in the head out while he has it apart it will save you in the long run.

hey , i pull with a ported head, custom by hotrod diesel. ca , 14 millemeter studs and oringing. I got a 400 degree drop in egts, and at least a 50 hp increase. It takes a long time now to get her hot. On the track I punch 1800 degrees real quick, but i am super fueled. I dont think the new cast head would be worth it, you just need to machine your head so it is flat, have it ported (provided there are no cracks) make sure you stud it, it will calm you so much interms of head gasket blow outs even with oringing. If you do go with head studs, make sure they have allen key heads in the top, makes torqueing alot easier. But you will see a benefit i recommend it strongly. good luck

Thanks for the positive words. Did you have your stock head ported or go with the heavier cast head? What was the cost for porting, and was it a stage 2 port job? Who done your port work? I did not find a contact for Hot Rod Diesel.

Thanks again!

I ported my stock head, we have done lots and there has never been a problem, porting cost differs from a 12 valve to a 24 valve just do to the number of ports, not sure which truck your doing. Give Heath a call, he will lay it all out for you, 1877 655 1234 or 705 439 3298 and visit www.hotroddiesel.ca. It was one of the best investments for me. Best of luck.
