What's up with my shift knob turning on my 6-speed. It started the same day I bought it and it has been slowly turning around since then. It still hasn't made it all the way around. It's completely upside down now. I have tried to turn it by hand but can't budge it. Are they just screwed on to the stick? If so, maybe I could unscrew it and put a little space under it. I have been contemplating buying one of those knobs from Geno's with the little button in it for the exhaust brake which I don't have yet. I let a buddy drive my truck the other day and he couldn't figure out the shift pattern. Maybe D-C did that as a theft prevention measure. It confuses the hell out of the thieves:D

It's not the entire shift knob that is rotating, it's just the small disk on the top that shows the shift pattern. No big deal, it happens on all of them and it's an easy fix. The small disk pops right out using a narrow screw driver. Dab some glue where the disk rides in the shift knob and the glue will lock the disc into the desired position. Reinsert the disk oriented the way you prefer. Done and done!

My 02 does it too.

I've been thinking of keeping track of dial's rpm (revolutions per month) :D

Get a small (real small) screw driver and pry out. Then glue well. I did mine once but didn't put enough glue.

One day, I might do it.

That insert sure got your ire up didn't it. They have been doing this since at least '94. Like my mom used to say "don't let anybody ride your bike (truck)" That way it don't matter where the shift pattern indicator is. :)

Just pry it out with a small screwdriver and score the edges with a utility knife (up and down, not around) several times. It will stay put without glue. The glue could be a problem if you have to take the cap off at a later date.

Alas, fooled by a little plastic disc, oh the shame:eek: Thanks guys, I'll pop the disc and work some magic on it.

Bert: sweet shift knob, that might just do the trick too.

I'm with Dean, didn't want to glue in case I need it to come out in the future, so for my fix, I took out the disk and put four crimps around the flange with needle nose pliers and then slipped it back into place. Thing hasn't budged since.
