Just replaced this POS last year and the darn clip broke again on the way home today :mad: . You think DC would insert a #$&*! $. 050 piece of spring steel inside the mold to keep the catch from breaking every blasted 10 -12 months. #@$%! :{ :{ :{ :{

Off to the dealer tomorrow . . . Maybe I should buy 2 this time

There I feel a little better now.

I hear ya. Mine broke over a year ago and I have yet to replace it. Luckily it at least halfway closes, even with the sunglasses in it. But I agree, DC could have done a little better in that department.

I've broken two as well. Just leave it hanging open like NoCalH. O. PO does  Been trying to think of a way to rig a better clip... ... maybe something with Velcro :-laf

David

I refuse to buy a new one, even if its $5. I bought some heavy duty Velcro at Home Depot. It’s been working great for over a year, same piece.

There is a post some where in TDR where a guy used a small screw to create a friction fit, pictures and all. If my Velcro ever wears out I will try his method.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!

I was thinking about velcro but the screw deal seems like a longer fix. Thanks jjohn.

And here I thought that I was just being ham-fisted with mine (already broken).

I have scared up a replacement console - what's the best way to drop the headliner enough to replace it? (am thinking about putting some small gauges or switches in the front part of the console as well).

My sunglasses wont fit in there anyway because they are wrap arounds. I mounted my cb up thru that console. I like having my radio where I can see it & my coax & wires run into the headlinner & down each a piller for dual firesticks.

Do you have any pics of your cb install? I was hoping to mount mine up high also but not too sure about how to get-r-done.

I'll take some pics of it but it will be later tonite. My cb is a small unite but still removed the rear view mirror for the instal. the console comes out by poping some clips. Under it is a metel bracket that I drilled, then put the console back & drilled thru it & used sheet metal screws to mount cb bracket. If you have a larger cb you might want to tap the holes so you can use bolts to secure a heavier cb. The glasses holder is still useable but the compartment for a garage door opener is not.

If you do buy another just put a dab of silicone behind the clip and let it dry. It will keep it from flexing to much when you open it. I'm on my original one.

Credit for the idea goes to another TDR member, I just can't remember his handle.

Isn't it reassuring how DC uses such cheap materials in a truck that costs damn near or over $40,000. 00!!!!!! #@$%!

Sunglasses Holder

Mine was cracked when I drove it off the dealers lot. Always seemed week when closing, and finally broke this summer. Dealer replaced under warranty. On #2 now I'll try the silicone dab idea. You'd think after replacing enough of these they would change the design. Dave

magnetic closure

I took the broken off tab, filed it down, turned it around and glued it back on as a finger grip.

Then I found a pair of little (smaller than dime size) magnets. Make sure you orient them for polarity. Glue one to the top of the console. Make sure you glue to the plastic, not just the foam. Glue the other to the glasses holder.

This fix has worked well for me for over a year. Nothing flexes, so there is little chance of fatigue.

cb mount

Mine broke 2 years ago, I used duct tape on top of the hinge to hold it together and a small piece of 1/8 vacuum line on the outside wedged into the V to work as a spring. It's worked as good as new since. Don't even notice the small piece of black vacuum hose on the outside.
