Personally I like a 4X4 w/o a posi and a 2wd w/ a posi. I live in a very hilly area and like to not slide sideways when in 4wd, which is why I prefer to not have a posi.

My question - I've had my truck about 1 month and with it being so front heavy seems to be able to spin the tires in gravel VERY easily.

To those who don't have a posi - do you find you spin the tires too much (when you don't want to?)

I'm not too much worried about taction in the snow or grass since I have 4wd. I just don't want to go through the effort of removing the posi and wishing I didn't.

Any comments?

Thanks!

Dan

Dan,,Since I know that the truck you bought has had some work done to it(remember the posts you made on here and the other boards you frequent along with me) I'll give you a answer,,I'd myself not get rid of the posi at all,,While i agree that a 2wd is in need of some help for adverse weather conditions we experience in our area,I'd have to sat to remove the posi from your truck would only hamper it somewhat,,Mine since we worked it over some has similar problems and since its a 12v also can be very adventurous to drive on wet or rainy roads(Can not count the number of times I've been sideways or loose due to no discretion on the loud pedal),,Sand, loose dirt and gravel, and even my grassy yard without using 4x4 at times is a chore to move on,partly due to nose weight and partly due to the work done and my heavy right foot,,I'd leave it alone and use the little lever when needed, after all itsn't that what you got it for??,,Since you just came into owning this truck and are a newbie, trust me,when the snow is bumper high and you slide the little lever back, posi and all,and see how it goes you smile and be glad you didn't take ie out,,Hey by the way,you coming to our meet in a few weeks??,Timberville to York Springs is and easy trip, hope you come up... ..... Hey Hammer - Welcome Back. Sorry to hear about the death in the family. Hope closing the estate went well!

Thanks for the input!

Also, thanks for the invite to the meet. However, I was bummed to find out it was the weekend of Aug 25th. I had already commited myself to the hospital - no wait - make that to going to the "wheels of time" carshow in Macungie (sp?) PA. A friend of mine has a 51 Merc 4dr hartop - missing 2 doors and the hardtop, flathead 8 tricked out the 50's style, customized interior, etc - which we are taking there. Maybe next time!

I'd leave it in, guys I know w/open rears say they spin the tires a lot, especially in the rain. Mine will get sideways real easy in 3rd and with a little more effort in 4th when it rains, with a posi and 255/85s (33" tall).

Are we calling a posi the same as a limited slip? I drive my 1 ton dually every day up here where we drive sometimes for weeks at a time on ice, snow, slush, packed snow and everything in between. I hunt in some pretty rough sidehill country and have never had a problem caused by the limited slip making me go sideways. Many times I drive 22 miles to work on solid ice and this is where the limited slip shows its stuff. Wouldn't be without it! I've had Dodge diesels for 6 years and both have had the limited slip driving in some pretty adverse conditions regularly.
