My 2000 had a posi and it never spun one wheel, of course it was stock and could only really spin in snow or on dirt but it always spun both no matter what the traction under each wheel was. Now with my 06 posi(limited slip)it hardly ever spins both wheels. On ice or snow with truck stopped I can push hard on the break and can get both wheels to spin but with no break it will just spin one wheel. If I make the slightest little turn from a dead stop it will only smoke one tire. Any time I get stuck in 2 wheel drive I can look in the mirror and see only one wheel spinning, in my 2000 I never saw just one wheel spin when stuck in 2 wheel drive. Is this an 06 thing is is there possibly a problem here?

Appreceiate any help,Thanks,Rob.

I think I read something in the manual about using the e brake to help it lock up if needed. Also, if you jump on it too fast, you might be overpowering the unit, and since you have a Smarty like me, lol, it's easy to do, but mine has been posi since new, never failed me, and I've taken mine places where 4x4's have been stuck, towed my 6500lb trailer on to Pismo Beach in 2wd, just aired down all 8 tires to 11 psi.

Yep thats the majority of what I hear. I need a lock right or detroit locker. What are you all running and how do you like it?

Your 2000 had the Dana axle. Your 06 has the American axle, which does not work the same. Good or bad, I don't know. My 05 works okay if I use my e-brake and steering, but never as good as the 95.

Thanks for the replies, every thing makes sense now,S*@T should have kept the 2000. Will a 2000, 2500 dana rearend fit in a 06 3500 sw?

I'm with JHardwick on this one. My AA posi is predictable. The dana would turn into a "one weeler" as soon as it heated up. I could have restacked the plates in the 80, but then I would have gotten shudder on turns.

I found with the AA, you need to be moving first to have it act as a posi.

I have a 20% grade concrete driveway I go up every day. With snow on the driveway the Dana's (had 2) would spin which ever wheel was loose every time, which would heat up the clutch plates and make the rear slip even more!

With the AA, they both spin once I am moving. If your not moving, put on the emergency brake enough and the rear thinks it has equle traction and the rear works great.

the disavantage with the AA is once I am out of the driveway, I have to make a LT and continue up hill on a road that is crowned in the center. the truck will always go up that hill sideways as both rear tires spin in the snow.

Edit: PS, its called a "limited slip", not a posi. This way they get around service calls saying the rear don't lock up, since it really is not designed to lock up.
