Can someone do this in Portland ASAP?

Rare Trucks

Recently I've noticed that everytime that I reboot or start my PC it dials my ISP all on its own for no apparent reason:confused: Some times it connects at random when the PC has been on for several hours. The operating system is Windows 98, with Norton antivirus, the dat files are up to date and Norton says the system is clean(no infected items found). I've emptied my browser cashe both memeory and hard drive files. Deleted all the cockies. For now I'm dissconecting the phone line from the PC when I'm not surfing the Net. Any sugestions most appreciated:confused:

not possessed, but it sounds like you have a "trojan horse" installed, a program that's hidden but lets others spy on you!

OR, you might just have to take it off of "auto dial" mode.

Check your network settings in the CTRL panel...

Windows Start Button>Settings>CTRL Panel>Internet Options>Connections Tab>Below where it says "dial up settings"

make sure "Never Dial a Connection" is selected, if it isn't, select it

and click on "Apply".

R. ebel,

You may want to check your Norton AV configuration. To do that, right mouse click on the Norton AV icon in your system tray, select Configure, select Internet-Live Update and verify that Enable Automatic Update LiveUpdate it is not checked. If it is uncheck it.

If you don't have the icon in the tray, select the Options button after you've started NAV from the programs menu.
