Possible Gear Clash Solution for 3rd

I had a slight 3rd gear clash until I seated my clutch pulling down a large dead pine tree. It had all but disappeared but I would get an occasional rub when accelerating to merge into traffic. I noticed that when shifting with this very straight shifter I tend to shift into third at a slight angle to the right. If I shift straight up (which feels like a slight movement to the left) I get no clash even under acceleration. In other words I was shifting with pressure towards the radio display. If I shift toward the volume/tuner knobs, no clash and easier shifting. So I looked at the shifter some more and sure enough, the shift towards the knobs although seeming to be a little to the left is straight up #ad
. Somebody else with a six speed and clash want to try this and see if it works. Now that I've shifted this way for a while I don't really notice it. What made me think about it was a ten speed

Do you drive a big truck like an 18-wheeler?
If so remember your schooling days that they told you to preload with the palm of your hand to push into gear and not "grab" it with the whole hand? I have found on my 6 speed that if I do this, I have not had a clash at all but once in a while I grab it and I clash so that is the secret but if what you do works then don't fix it lol

I used to drive the big trucks and that's what made me think of this. You are correct, now that I'm doing this slight jog to the left, I am using the palm of my hand to feel the detent/shift. It's like an optical allusion..... that very straight stick makes me want to "push" up which is to the right of where the correct shift is. I got it now though.

My last truck was 1970 350 4x4 w/granny low first. I called it the mystery shifter. If you hit the pattern right, ya-who! If you missed it would just bounce off the gate.
