I'm curious what a stock-rebuilt auto trans will hold. I'm considering buying a 4x2 2500 second gen reg cab longbed. Saw it on the way to work this morning out by the road with a 'for sale' sign. I stopped and looked briefly at the info sheet on the window, and it said that it's got 200k miles, stock engine, and received new balljoints, brakes, and rebuilt trans in Dec 2005. I forgot to see what year it was since I was in a hurry, so I'm not sure if it was a 47rh or 47re.

Anyway, the question is: with a stock rebuild on the trans, how much power can I expect it to hold if I just use the truck as a commuter (no towing)? Since it is freshly rebuilt, how much more could it hold if I slapped a performance TC and VB in it?

Thanks.

Chris

My stock 95 47rh is still holding a #6 at 230K not towing. My stock 98 47re held a #6 until 185K but would slip in OD towing my fiver up hills above 24# boost. I would recommend a GSK to go with the plate.

I would also recommend checking the pressures in the transmission and adjusting them if needed. I did that on my 98 when I added the plate at 116K and feel that helped it last to 185K towing a 13K fiver.

As for the mods it will still be only as strong as the weakest stock "link".

Hmmm I have been dying to slide the plate forward on my stock-as-sin '98, but I didn't want to run the chance of hurting the transmission. Maybe I could get away with it a little bit? Actually what I'd rather do is leave the plate alone, and swap out injectors for the set of DDP Stage IIs I have in the garage :D

Truck has 141,000 miles on original untouched transmission. Previous owner pulled a medium-sized 5er between Idaho & S. California several times. Before doing any power enhancements I need to fix my rear axle, then a fluid change and band adjustment. I'm going to try my hand at it (never have messed with an auto before). How do you check and adjust the pressure tgrfan2?
