Bob - I know you've had experience with this product. BUT, it looks like the device only helps when the bump is severe enuf to activate the overloads and make them do their little tap thing - which can be helped by rubberizing the tips of the overloads (per TDR). It also looks like the device stiffens the regular springs by clamping them. I sure don't want to restrict the movement of the regulars.

Craig,

Buckaroo2Bob won't answer your email right now. He pulled his humongous boat to Canada
where he is fishing. You think he would have taken me along, after getting his rear suspension squared away. He took a couple of
guys for rides at the last TRD meeting, and
will probably make the offer to you. I did not know Bob B4 he bought the kit, but I think I made a friend. (Maybe I get to go fishing next time!)To busy right now anyway.

ronsram -Yes the Active Suspension will help
your wheel hop & axle wrap in mud & snow.

tlippy,
The upper overloads push & slap on the stops
(rubberized or not) and not only give a bad
ride but beat up the truck, cargo, & trailer.
Our kit does NOT clamp the springs and does
NOT restrict their movement. Our method absorbes rather than resists. The coil spring is constantly telling the leaf spring to stay in it's designed position over bumps & dips, in corners,(better than a sway bar)
accelerating, carrying loads, etc. It not only does not harden the ride but improves it
and stabilizes the entire rear suspension.

I have a message for you from TDR member Don Broadhead: He said special thanks to Mr. Buckaroo2Bob for your post that caught his attention. He just installed the Active Suspension kit on his truck and e-mailed the following to me:

HOLY SMOKES!!!!
Man does my truck ride better now.
YEEHAWWW!
Best money I ever spent.
I just can't believe how much better it is.

I guess he likes it. #ad

Mr. Bob

For those of you who have installed the Roadmaster systems yourselves, How tight did you make the coil spring? Was it more than the 25-cent recommendation, or less? and what were your results?

I will let you know tommorrow after I get mine installed. mrbob sent me mine, and will get a chance to try them out and give you a reading. I am going to do the "quarter" setting at first.

wheelinfool:

I finally got my act together and got the roadmasters installed today. Boy, after a short test drive over my favorite test roads, I really notice a reduction in the sharp bounce. I set the spring at a quarter, and will get a better test drive tommorrow after im on the road. It looks like it is going to be worth the expense and effort to get these on.

Now, if I can only get the #%&* steering problem fixed... ...

I have to apologize for going on vacation in Canada and not realizing the response this posting obtained. When I returned I had 32 e-mail messages of which 25 were from members asking questions about the installation of Mr. Bob active springs. Some questions about setting them at the thickness of a quarter (. 080) or more. I have tried them at . 080 and . 120 thousandths(measured with a feeler gauage) and truely believe it depends on each an individual truck (2500 vs. 3500) and the overall weight. Once you have made the installation, the adjustment doesn't take that long. I have suggested purchasing the hex head 3/8" drive from Sears for ease of installation or adjustment. My 3500 4X4 will a metal camper shell and extra 38 gallon fuel tank where the spare tire goes rides better at . 120 setting.

Don Broadhand, Plano, Tx. was very impressed with his ride but asked an important question. What should we do with the Velvet Ride Shackles if we have installed them ? Leave them or remove them. These shackles originally gave us 1-2" of travel in attempting to smoothe the ride. This travel allows my truck with an 800-900 pound tongue weight to go down this additonal distance. I won't have time to take the Velvet Ride shackles off and try the ride for several weeks. Has anyone installed them on a 3500 and removed the Velvet Ride shackles or installed them without the shackles? Please let us know the results.

Craig Matheny, Fullerton,CA. wants to go for a ride. I sent him an e-mail and will join up with him within the week. I took several people for a ride at the last Fullerton Dodge meeting which is held once a month on tuesday night.

Mr. Bob wanted to know how my fishing trip in Canada went. I lost a torque converter in Mt. Vernon, Wash. (5th one), a turbo hose clamp in Bakerfield, CA. , and they stole my Honda generator (pad locked to the boat trailer with a cable and lock in front of my motel room). I spent five days in wonderful Mt. Vernon, Wash. awaiting parts being sent by overnight UPS from Florida, California, and Oregon along with the repairs. I believe a 6-speed in in the future. Mr. Bob, my vacation story is a very, very long story.

I hope this information is benefical to many. I have spend many a months attempting to solve the rough ride.

Well after approximately 2 weeks after the install of the roadmasters i have one word to describe them-GREAT!I have taken a 700 mile trip with my 13k 5er down the e-way and 2 lanes worked as promised!Have driven empty on the e-way and 2 lane roads and even on gravel roads, have not found one thing yet that the roadmaster did help the handling and ride yet! These are mounted on 99 Qc 3500 dually 2x2!

i know this is old but there use to be a kit out there with a shock where the sping is in that kit is it still around. im looking to stop the wheel hop in the winter thats all. i have a 3500 4x4 that weighs 9000 all the time with tools and rides nice like that other than winter wheel hop.

Wow, this sounds like quite a product. Hadn't heard of it before. Anybody have any additional feedback after 5 years? Any problems after xxx miles?

Thanks. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I have had the Active suspension on for more than 5 years. They are so rusty now they will never come apart. :-laf

They work good for wheel hop reduction in the snow. Reduce it 70%-80%. I have found they reduce sway in the rear too.

I know some guys did not like them when using a slide in camper or when towing heavy. Try a search.
