Possible swap, R-48 to six spd. manual

To tow as heavy as I want, and keep this same truck I can put about $6300

in the trannny and bullit proof it. Or, what do you think of the option of just swapping in a six speed manual. Just as expensive?? A little less ?? Maybe I should increase my mediciation again, and forget the whole thing.

build the auto... you're not going to save that much swapping to the 6sp, but you're going to do a LOT more work

I have the G56 6spd manual. I like it for towing, but I do not do much of that.

I also like to put my foot in it. The manual does not like to speed shift. I

would like the auto trans for that. If it were me, I think I would bullet proof

the auto trans and make sure I had good trans coolers.

OK, pulled the trigger and Browns Diesel is going to go through the R-48
to pretty much fix the weakness in the transmission. Mostly all Goerand Stuff.
It's only money !!

One of these days you may be able to buy a 68rfe for $6000, and just install it with no beefing up, although it does need a little computer to control it.

That would probably be the ticket. right now I have never heard of anyone smart enough electronically to make it all work.

not if you have a truck just like it with a 6spd whos willing to swap it with you!



J&H performance has done a few of em (not sure on 3rd gens though) I like my 6er but could benifit more from the auto the way I drive and what I do with the truck.
