Smarty And Snow Plowing???

I took my truck in a couple weeks ago to Tom Addis Dodge tell me that nothing was wrong with it. Talking to my Brothers they were at the dealership and overheard a story about a guy who brought his truck in to have a knocking looked at and had intake and exhaust done ( me ) and they voided his warranty. Now it may be very coincidental but, I would think if they voided my warranty they would have to tell me about it 1, and 2, those *******s had no reason to void it. Is there any way for a guy to find out by looking up the VIN number somewhere to see if it really is voided. I was thinking of calling down there tomorrow and saying I took it to another dealer and they said my warranty was voided by Tom Addis. Any suggestions

Jasco, if in fact the dealer voided your warranty for what ever reason, they should have notified you immediately when you went in to pick up the truck?

However, if they voided your warranty and didn't tell you, or you suspect they may have, go back to dealer and ask them to bring up your vin # and print out the record for your vehicle. It should show all work that has been performed by a Dodge dealer nationally. It should also show if warranty work was ever voided. Work with the dealer you took your truck to. You could also obtain the same information from another dealer, however, if there is a problem, he probably wouldn't be able to help you.

First and foremost they cannot JUST vioid your warranty without just cause. Take a look at your receipt from your visit to see what has been posted to your vehicle records. You can go to any dealership and ask them to give you a copy of your build sheet, and with it they can also give you a printout of all service records kept by Dodge regarding your vehicle. I would certainly not lie to anyone and make up a story of any kind to get to the bottom of this. In fact, I would go straight to the dealership incolved and ASK them about all of this. Maybe they/or someone were just screwing with your brothers and it is all a bunch of BS? The only way they can viod anything is IF you have a problem they are trying to fix and something you did or you added caused the problem, then they will document what their finding are and what is/will not be repaired because of it. I would not get too upset, but I would go straight to the management for answers. Don't let some rumor make you paranoid, lots of trucks going in/out of dealerships, they could have been actually talking about someone else.

I'm here in Spokane, and I'd like to know with Dave Smith and Dishman who work a lot outside the warranty doing upgrades for customers... . why you'd take your truck to Tom Addis instead... . Just my wondering... .

Post or PM the last 8 positions of your vin and I will run it on DealerConnect for a restriction.

Mods and warranty coverage.

Dave Smith requires you to sign a document warning you that any mods installed by them are not covered by D/C and may in fact void your warranty. That being said the accessories manager said they are very forgiving with moderate upgrades and don't look for ways to deny you coverage. I bought mine at DSM and would love for them to open a store here in San Diego. Good folks. :)

Nice, the last 8 are 6G262946. Thanks sag2

I took my truck to Tom Addis because it is closer than DSM. I did buy my truck at DSM. Just the convenience of dropping it off before work 5 mins away I guess. I'll say this though. I will never take it back to Tom Addis again. I do like Dishman's service department, I should have taken it there. Thanks for the replies

No restriction listed. Looks like they were just messing with you. They charged for a flash, but nothing else.

My dodge is well over the warranty period, but when I took my wifes van in for the one and only visit to the dealer they told me to reset the edge to stock settings before they hooked it up to their computer or it will know.

obvisously at $80 an hour if isn't covered by warr they ain't fixing it, so why would any smart shop manager want to void a warr on a brand new truck?

go luck, if you ever need warr work definately go to the other shop

Warranty is not up to the dealer

More and more the warranty decisions are made directly by the factory. Quite frequently the mechanic is forced to call STAR hotline to get permission to fix the vehicle and many times parts have to be ordered directly by STAR; the dealer is not allowed to do this. If we do not comply, we will not be paid for the warranty work. Sometimes we will eat the cost of warranty for a good customer, but as a business you can't continue to eat the cost of the competiton's mistakes or them going outside Dodge's warranty guidelines.

I work out of Portland and we get a lot of the warranty problems put on us caused by DS motors doing upgrades. I am glad to hear that they make people sign a disclosure, but we still get plenty of people in who have the performance injectors or "Dr. Diesel" done and were told that factory warranty will cover it. DS lets us be the bad guys who tell the customer the bad news. Oh, and then we get the service survey that by all rights belongs to them.

It isn't about new vehicle pricing. Local area dealers who have had to spend a lot of money cleaning up after DS have a lot of resentment. I don't blame consumers for wanting the best deal, but also don't you all blame Tom Addis for not wanting to subsidize Dave Smith for warranty clean-up.

KRay,

How come when I called over to Dicks in Hillsboro at 38,000 miles to have them look at the leaky hydro boost unit, leaky steering box and leaky rear main seal, they told me that there would be no warranty coverage at all. So with that said I didn't even bother to take it in. I understand that once we modify these trucks there is no warranty. At that time my truck had nothing on it. Now it only has a Smarty and even at that it would not contribute to any of the oil under my truck.

If this is on the 2004 truck you mention in your signature line then the rear main seal should have been covered under the 7/70 powertrain warranty except for the $100 deductible. The warranty on non-powertrain items was always 3 years/36000 miles. The reason you weren't covered on those at 38,000 is that is 2000 miles out of warranty.

Also, I can't speak for every dealership. Our shop does more training hours and has more certified techs than anyone in the Northwest. Not every dealer is as well-trained.

magnuson-moss act! read it, know it. they can't void your warranty unless they have without a doubt the aftermarket item was the cause of failure! Print it out and place a copy in your glove box.

I know it was out of warranty by 2,000 miles and I know the dealers have to follow rules but it is almost like DC says "Phew we didn't have to fix that one. "

I guess it is my fault that I didn't look close enough at 35,999 and put it on the hook and had it taken in.
