Well, my truck is less than 48 hours old and I already have in my hands an autometer pyro gauge and a boost gauge. Just a quick question on installing the pyro in the exhaust elbow - any particular spot I should drill and tap on the elbow? I don't want to drill somewhere that is weak or will have that long probe sticking into anything important.

And man, deciding on a gauge pod for the pillar is tough work. . I think I'm going to get the 2 gauge pod from autometer since I have the tweeter. Deciding on a chunk of plastic like this should be easier though. #ad

Good morning
I took my elbow off to drill.
I located the thermo on top of elbow, right before the downward sweep of the 90*.

I just did mine and I pulled the elbow off. I couldn"t get my drill to line up good with it on. I would not drill on top dead center it has a seam. Drill off center to the inboard side. Thats what I did and it worked out OK. I also have a trans temp gauge. I installed the mag hitech pan and have sending unit in the pan. I think I'll have to change the location of the sender I hardly get a reading, I guess thats good in a way but not accurate. L. O. L Rich

well rich being a parts manager you can probably get yourself a good deal on line CH05011244AA and fitting CH00118752 , probably get it installed for next to nothing also ???

as far a EGT probe , if you are planing on bombing ,or towing heavy , you will get a more accurate reading PRE turbo .

In reply to the elbow having a seam, it is really a parting line of the casting. It offers no weakness in the part. In casting or molding process the weak link is the weld lines. (the joining of the material flow)In the mold design you would never have the weld line in the parting line area. I think most are offsetting to the inside a little, but I choose not too. Personal choice that is what is so nice about TDR listen-learn-and do what fit your needs.
have a good day

I put mine on the elbow, after removing it. also had the piece glass beaded and painted it while it was off with high heat paint, as it was rusty already after only about 8 months... I put the pyro and boost guages in separate pods and mounted them to the side of the plastic cover for the air bag module, behind the 4x4 shifter...

I'm mounting my pyro post turbo because it will only be used to monitor the turbo temp before shut down.

Because my main use for it is for shutdown. My truck is stock engine-wise, and will remain (mostly, already picked up a K&N and will put on a 4" exhaust) that way for the near-term. I will be towing heavy at times, but I think the truck will be fine. If I do start playing with the engine in the future, I may mount a second probe pre turbo and use both.

I mounted one pre and post turbo - do it all at once!

You most certainly do not need to remove the elbow to drill and tap. If you remove the airbox, you'll have plenty of room. (Drill and tap slowly) I beleive there is even a flat spot on the elbow that you can get to (at least I know there is a flat spot - just can't remember right now if you can reach it easily). None the less, you needn't remove the elbow.

And yes, post turbo is really only accurate for shut down.
