A Useful Tool?

I can't resist a couple stories from ages gone by:

Cruising up the I-5 near the UW at near triple digits, this motorcycle/crotch rocket/rice burner enters the freeway and is moving... I mean really moving. So I slide over to give him a run for his money. We top out at 145 befor he slows to take the exit. So I follow him, really to see what he's riding. When we get to the light at the end of the ramp, I hit the horn a couple times to make sure I've got his attention and then turn on those pretty flashing lights. You could see him literally deflate. Laughed my arse off before I even talked to the guy. Putting on the serious face after pulling over and do the approach... . you know the one :-laf . The guy is stammering and the whole time I'm hitting him with a dead-pan straight face. So while I get to the end of the lecture, I ask him if he is by chance a husky... he gets a glimmer of hope and says 'yeah man, you too?"... Nope. Once a coug, always a coug. I thought the guy was gonna cry at the justice of it all. I went back to the car and let him sit and worry while I obviously worked on paperwork for a good while... I walked back up with ticket book in hand and asked him how he thought this was gonna end for him?... ... ... ... ... ..... Just as he was about to conclude how bent-over he was, I told him I was going to let him go. If he wants to kill himself at 4AM, more power to him.

#2 While driving the second car in a pursuit of a stolen car down I-5, car takes the Northbound I-405 exit in Tukwila at about 110 MPH. This is before they fixed it when there was open fields and big berms at both ends.

Stolen car goes off roading and tumbling. Driver gets ejected and lands in drainage ditch. (underwater) Police car #1 goes off-roading and keeps it straight but impacts BIG berm at far end of field. I knew the ramp from driving it everyday and stopped at their point of departure and ran across the field. Making choice to help injured cop rather than drowning gang member auto thief seeming like a prudent thing to do. Unfortunately, the next few cops to arrive found the guy before... . too bad.

I donno about that... . I've been pulled over 27 times... . 2 tickets. :--) :--) :p Oo. Oo.

Lucky... maybe... .

When being pulled over... .

Roll down the window. keep both hands on the wheel. Once your stopped turn on the hazzards and turn the vehicle off. (makes them feel at ease) Talk nicely to the officer. Don't lie. If they ask... tell them what you know. Ya I was goin a little fast. Don't say how fast...

If they ask for you license and insurance. "My license is in my back pocket and my insurance is in the glove box. " Then reach for them. (again the officer is at ease)

I think I've gotten out of most of mine because I kept them at ease, wasn't sarcastic, or had any malce in my voice.

Josh

Yep, practice that all the time.

But after a few years of age under my belt, and a youngin ridin shotgun with me I seem to see a lot less of the side of the road.

On 12/16/03 the Highway Patrol Ocifer must of been really bored. I was a complete gentleman to him and he was a complete prick!

Oooo. . 7/28/2003 Speed Contest

And a few more speeding tickets here and there back in 2000-2001.

My driving record is still squeaky clean. :D

I had a streak going in 1989-1990 33 times stopped one ticket and it was on a Jetski (making a wake in a no wake zone that was not posted, I should have known it  ) bunch of stupid stuff failure to put my foot down when coming to a stop on bike. Cop couldn't believe I could bring bike to a stop without putting my foot down did it three times for him and he said well it just looks bad put your foot down from now on. having paper dealer tag on bike rather than metal plate, wheelies (one said it just looked to good another said he was blocked by car but was sure the front end was in the air  ) another for stopping to fast for light with rear tire 12" in the air I asked in the future if I should just go through the light? (almost got a ticket that time) pulled over for speeding 50/35 but cop got called to a robbery in progress while I was getting license out, passing in unsafe area but line was questionable and cop gave it to me. My luck was great that year but I think I used it all up that year.

Since then 84/65 in Wy since I have a CDL the cop said he would not mark that down so Wy would not notify home state and since Wy goes in 5mph fine increments he would mark 80 but anything 15 you have to report yourself anyway I told him so he put 75 and the fine? ... ... $5

But here is the real classic not me but neverthless interesting

Hey justin, you always keep a resume like that for certain events?? :-laf

:-laf I have a file that I keep all my "awards" in. I just popped it out of the cabinet and started flippin through the pages.

Knock on wood! I have been clean for over a year. I save all my smoking and speeding for the drag strip.

My best was a warning for 89 in a 55. The cop pulled out ffrom a side road and turned towards me. I had the T/A tires slippping (but not skidding) and got it slowed down quick. When he hit the shoulder to whip around and get me, I just pulled over and waited. He had to wait for the road to clear then whipped around and flipped on the lights and siren. I figured because of the traffic he didn't see me sitting there waiting and he killed the siren right away.

He walks up (I'm sitting there with my DL out). and asks "Do you know why I stopped you?" I said "I might have been going a little fast. " He says "Do you know how fast?"

I really had no idea, I had the car around 100 or so when I saw him and trail braked HARD. The car was set up for autocross and was real responsive so I had no idea what speed he had me at. When I told him I didn't know he said "Take a guess". I started at 65 and increased by 10 each time he said "Higher". When I got to 85 he said he had me lock in at 89 and that I was slowing down "Real fast".

It was a beautiful spring day and I had a clean driving record (finally). He told me he'd have to give me a ticket but when he came back to the the window he said gave me a warning and told me to "Pull a plug wire or something - SLOW DOWN". He got a big thank you.

Too long ago to remember them all... . When I first got my license in 1980, there was an automatic two year probation period, I got off probation when I was about 26. The State of MI used to send me an annual "Please get your 'crap' together" letter :-laf

I once received an insurance invoice that was about 50% of what I normally paid. I thought they dropped a vehicle off the policy! ... . my 80% surcharge (AAA) finally dropped off.

Test drive after the HRVP install, I pulled over to open up the needle valve on the boost gauge line. When I checked my mirror before opening the door I saw the police parked behind me. Fortunately, I had stopped on the shoulder of a busy street, the cop was shaking his head "no". What to do??? Driving away from him did not seem like too bright of an idea, so I sat there until he finally pulled up next to me. 52 in a 35, I told him I would keep it under control, he thanked me and let me off. :D

Back in the gasser days, 90+ in a 55. yes, He wrote the + down, lol. he told me he was letting me off easy, he could have wrote me for eluding, etc, etc.

Wot a buddy.
