I'm Baaack!!
Just got home from the trip up to Piers last week. This was a 2 week vacation for me and the wife (she said she didn't enjoy the first part when we were at piers, the truck is not her thing) and the Piers thing was right in the middle. I had Nascar Mark spend a few hours tuning the old truck on the dyno, he made it run like a new one!
On Thursday he did the tuning and I had him stop at 231 HP. Figured that was enough for the transmission. Well, the next day I took off the Fleetguard paper filter off the Old Smokey mount and put on an AFE I got at Piers. Saturday morning I figured "what the he** and talked to Mark about how much to turn the fuel screw to get to 250 HP. We decided about half a turn should do it. Well, I guess the AFE filter helped more than I thought, the half turn took me to 270 HP and I broke out of the 250 class. Torque was about 620.
I turned it back down a little after the dyno event but it sure is a kick in the butt to run up a long grade pulling the trailer at about half throttle. Post EGT seem to peak about 800 degrees. Boost is, well, I'm not sure cause my gauge goes to 30 psi and I can bury the needle in about a second!Oo. Need to get a new boost gauge now. I never intended to go this high but you know, now that I'm here and saw the guys up around 350 HP, I'm afraid I will try to go there as well. I ordered a new 3 piece manifold from Piers and will be installing that in a few weeks when it gets here and I have some time to do the porting that needs to be done.
Sam, Mark did the same thing to your old truck. I was amazed when you hit 253HP. Too bad it wasn't about 3. 5 HP lower so you could have won the 250 class. I still want that OD setup.
Carl, was a pleasure meeting you. Did you get the new springs installed yet? If so, what is the result?
Bob B. from Portland, Mark, John, Jason, Dave and all the rest of the people I met, I was glad to be able to put a face to a name. Was great to meet some of the NWBomber people. Hope I can remember all of you, there was a lot of people I met! I was trying to get some video and didn't spend the time I should have getting around and meeting people.
Special thanks to Hoss and his wife Terry for letting me work on my truck in their driveway and spending the night there in our trailer. I put in a new NAPA thermostat before leaving home and had an overheating problem. Changed it out with a Cummins unit I picked up in Medford and that seemed to take care of the problem.
Bushwaker, thanks to you, Piers, and all the PDR gang for a great event. Was a real treat to finally get to meet you, I was surprised that you knew who I was before we even shook hands!
Sorry we didn't have time to chat a little more and get to know each other better. Had a chance to chat with your wife, now I know who keeps you in line!
Please tell Piers that I said thanks for a great event. I have some pics that I will forward to you and I'll make myself a copy of the video tape I took and send the tape to you so you can make a good clean copy and edit as you see fit.
Well, need to see what else has been posted in the past few weeks.
