Just a suggestion for TDR

Where's my issue #48

When I reply to a post how do I make a link to either another TDR thread or to a TSB file, etc. I've seen others that seem to be able to do this at will but I'm computer challenged. Thanks Ken irwin

It is Easy

I've never been asked that question so I had to tinker. Just go to the thread you want to link to. Copy the URL (the https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/ . . . . in your address box) completely. Then type up the post you're wanting to make. Paste the URL into the post. And be sure to select, "Automatically Parse Links In Text. " It worked for me like a charm. Give it a try.

If my instructions are in error, someone else just jump in here and correct me.

Yep, that's what I do.

What I don't know how to do, though, is set up the link so the address doesn't show - I've seen people who's posts say "Click Here" and it takes them to the link specified. How'd they do that?

Juan

HTML Code

They use code like this:

That's not very helpful, so below, I've omitted the "brackets" so you can see what the HTML looks like:

A HREF="https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums" Click Here

If I begin this string with an <

And then I place an > after the forums"

And after the "Click Here" I include < / A > (without spaces)

Then you can't see the code, but you see the "Click Here" and you are automatically taken to the address specified.

Cool. I'll have to try that.

Now, another question. When I try to post an image in a reply, I go to "manage attachments", "Browse", select the file, and the "upload" an image, I get the following error:

POST requests from foreign hosts are not allowed I've logged in, so I don't know what I am doing wrong. Any ideas? I was able to post the image in my reader's rig gallery, but not in a reply.

Thanks Robin for all your help.

Juan

JR was the image you were trying to upload coming from your PC or another website? The upload feature is for images coming from your machine. If you are trying to use a picture from another website then all you need to do is link to that image in your post by using the img tags like this:

{img}http://www.webaddress.com/picture.jpg{/img}

You just need to replace the { and } at the beginning and end with [ and ] . If it was an image on your local PC then I believe that message is coming from your machine - probably from a firewall package.

Yeah, it was coming from my PC.

I am running MSN 9. They recently made some changes, who knows, maybe they did something. I was able to upload into my reader's rig gallery and link to there. I had to logout and try to access my gallery (it made me re-login) and then I was able to get it to the gallery. Nothing I could do would let me post an image straight into the forum, though.

Thanks Steve. I'll keep looking. Ain't technology great!

Another way to post links with titles...

#ad

Use the "Go Advanced" feature when posting, then click on the "Insert Hyperlink" icon indicated by the arrow in the pic above. This will prompt you for the title, such as "This Thread", then prompt you for the URL address, such as "http://... . "

Cool!

R-N-R - for as long as I've been participating in this forum, I had never played with that icon. I feel like smacking my head and telling myself, "duh . . . ". Thanks again.
