Cummins in '97 Ford 460

Fan hub 3'' higher any made????

Ok, here is the situation. I have to potential project vehicles to choose from. I have a 88 chevy short bed with a custom flat bed 6"lift and 36's completely re-built from the ground up. I mean disk brake conversion, front and rear axles full locker and limited slip 4. 56 gears. I have actually been building this truck for about 5 years (really slowly!!!LOL) But, I just don't get anything out of the gas motor!!!! So, rather than sell it I was thinking about putting a 12v in it. Is there any way to use a auto transmission in this truck or will it just be much eayser to use a 5 speed? Is this a diecent truck to do this with??

The other truck is a 94 F350 crew cab 4x4 5 speed with a IDI motor in it. It really runs fine. So, I am kinda hesitant to do anything to it!

Any advice, help or suggestions is GREATLY appriciated! Also, any vendors that are good to work with for take out motors and trannys will help too!

The Chevy sounds like a better candidate for a cummins than the ford. As for as the auto transmission, I don't see why not. I would find someone that has done a cummins swap with an auto and see their advice. Definitely want pics though;)

Ya you could use a auto trans but not that one, more than likely its a 700r4/4l60e and no way with out extensive mods would it last. you could swap a 4l80e or a allison. Good Luck Brian

I was actually refering to using a 47 or 48re in it. I just don't no what kind of computer if any you need to use in it. Also, what about for the speedo???

Look for member JSTOKES. He put a 12v in a 94 Suburban and used the godge trans with some cool tricks to make it shift without using the dodge ecm. Im pretty sure he posted about it

If your partial to GM the 90-91 3500 1ton was available with the 4L80E and NP205 transfer case. The 90-93 GM diesel 4L80E had a stand alone TCM and the 4L80E/205 has the VSS on the tailshaft, hard to beat that for a conversion. 4spd OD with lockup and the 205 in the GM flavor even...

Or find a 94-95' Dodge CTD donor with the 4spd OD lockup 47RH, hydraulic controlled can be done without electronics.

So as long as I use a transmission with hydraulic control I will not need any sort of computer with this type of swap?? what about the speedo?

What do you think about using the 4. 56 gears in this thing with the 4 speed transmission. I have about 6'of lift and a 3' body lift. I only have 285x85x16. 5's right now but I am going to a 38x16x16. 5 tire eventually.
