Hello everyone, i am looking to powdercoat my front and rear axles. does anyone know of a shop that would take them apart in the temecula/ riverside area. i can pull them out of the truck but i just dont want to mess with the gears and stuff.

yeah jsut clean them spot less and power coat them complete. . i'd dot he hubs and ends of th eaxles too. . drive shafts too etc

To powder coat stuff it has to be sand blasted first no grease what so ever can be on the parts and then they cook at 400 degree's for 30 mins so if there was any seals forget em . there are several places that powder coat in riverside area but I dont think any of them will tear down the stuff for you .

so i guess that means i need to take it all apart to keep from melting the seals. I was planing on taking all the hub assemblies and knuckles off and just pulling the axle shafts out. but was trying to get away with not pulling gears. are there any other parts that have to be removed. thank you guys for your help.

Seals are easy to buy and change. . you can also pull the abs sensors etc. . any brake parts etc. . and the whole axle could be done 400 degrees is ok for it. . that wouldn't hurt it... just drain the lube real well... and duct tape the end tubes , and pinion etc. . sand blast carefully around that and you'd be ok just some ideas. . after you replace the axle seals, pinion seal, and diff gasket what else is there that couldn't handle 400 degrees? You still could kee pthe gears in the case...

but was trying to get away with not pulling gears.

On the front you'll need to pull the carrier assembly in order to pull the axle seals.

At the risk of going off topic - is there any reason black spray paint won't do the job? Is this going to be a show truck?

You want the show look then you will have to do same thing that guy did most likly and that is strip the axle down to nothing . Most places that do powder coating will not take the part in if it has any grease on it what so ever it contaiminates the sand they use to sand blast with and most places will want to blast it so that way they can coat it all the way . as for insulation I am not sure about that it all depends on how thick they go with the powder and what they charge you

so does anyone know of anyone that will strip them down in the so cal area. the only thing i dont feel comfortable with is seals and gears. everything else is nothing.

I know of a few shops but they will only except stuff ready to sandblast they dont want to waste time tearin stuff apart . if you had everything apart then it would be Easy just look in phone book I believe there is a shop in temecula area ?
